Corbyn lights up Islington Chanukah celebration

The Labour leader attends local ceremony

articlemain

Jeremy Corbyn continued a longstanding relationship with Chabad of Islington by attending its menorah lighting on Sunday, which was supported by Islington Council and attended by 250 people.

The Labour leader, who was accompanied by his wife, Laura Alvarez, posed for selfies and briefly addressed the crowd, wishing them a happy Chanukah and paying tribute to the local Chabad's Rabbi Mendy Korer.

Rabbi Korer said afterwards that Mr Corbyn had always supported the ceremony "and gets involved in other events to learn how he can assist the needs of the local community. I have a positive relationship with him."

Bringing warmth to rain-lashed Islington, the celebration also incorporated a firewalk, where 10 people raised more than £4,000 for the local Chabad by walking barefoot over hot coals.
