Open gesture at Whetstone synagogue

articlemain

As part of its commitment to strengthen good interfaith relations in the wider community Sha’arei Tsedek Reform has set up a programme of projects with close neighbours, All Saints Friern Barnet and Palmers Green Mosque, as well as many other local and national charities, organisations and groups.

In a gesture of openness and to reinforce its commitment to interfaith relations, the Whetstone synagogue is inviting members of the local community to an Open Afternoon on Sunday 13 December. This "fresher’s fair" style event will give visitors the chance to find out more about Judaism and will showcase activities on offer at Sha’arei Tsedek.

Rabbi James Baaden said: “This informal open afternoon is a great opportunity for our members and the local community to come together and learn about the variety of activities we have on offer - from a thriving nursery through to clubs for the over 70s; a wide-ranging adult educational programme and a multitude of religious services and celebrations."

He added: “If you’re looking for a synagogue to join, want to get back in touch with your Jewish roots or are just curious to find out what happens inside a synagogue why not come along – you’ll find a welcoming, warm and open community waiting to meet you.”

The afternoon falls on the eighth and final night of Chanucah. A special service, at the end of the afternoon, will see all eight lights lit on the synagogue's giant chanuciah.
