Kingston honours war heroes

Ninety-five-year-old Harold Shattock, a member of Ajex, read the memorial prayer at KIngston Synagogue's Shabbat civic service. The shul's cheder children contributed their thoughts about the sacrifices made by the soldiers of the two world wars.

The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mary Clark, Kingston MP James Berry, the Borough Police Commander and many councillors were among the 32 guests to join the congregants at the service. Ministers and members of local churches and representatives of the Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education attended the service which was led by Rabbi Samuel Landau. A book by Lord Sacks was given to the Deputy Mayor, and she presented certificates to cheder members who had been successfulin the GCSE religious studies examination.
