Celebrating faith differences in Manchester

articlemain

Yeshurun Hebrew Congregation was asked by the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester to host an interfaith event as part of his We All Stand Together initiative.

Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy launched the “We Stand Together” community initiative in Manchester, in response to concerns and anxieties being felt by people following global conflicts, terrorist attacks and manifestations of racial abuse and hatred. Since then a number of events have been held at various faith and non-faith centres, bringing communities together, in celebration of their differences.

Yeshurun's We Stand Together cohesion event attracted representatives from Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Bahia and Christian faiths, as well as a number of local dignitaries and faith organisations.

Speakers included Sir Peter, Yeshurun chairman Tony Kaye, the shul's Rabbi Chanan Atlas, Usman Nawaz from the Jamia Chashtia and Golden Mosques in Rochdale, Rev Mike Newman representing churches in Cheadle, representatives from Faith Network for Manchester and the Muslim Jewish Forum. The event was co-ordinated by Charles Bloom
