Borehamwood shul thinks pink

articlemain

A Shabbat service at Ohr Yisrael shul in Borehamwood was a sea of pink. The event, Pink Shabbat, organised by Elise Cirsch, Emma Coleman and Jonathan Rose, invited the community to "turn pink" for one Shabbat, while the shul used pink tableware, challot and Shabbat flowers. The entire community dressed in at least one item of pink to mark the occasion, raising awareness of Breast Cancer. An assortment of donated leaflets were left on every seat in shul and the entrance and kiddush halls were decorated with balloons and banners highlighting the cause. A sermon given by Rabbi Raphy Garson, included the importance of genetic testing for the breast cancer gene, adding a poignant end to the service, which was followed by a sponsored pink kiddush.

Premiere Pink, established in September 2008 by Elise Cirsch, following her own breast cancer diagnosis, turned a personal negative into a charitable positive. Premiere Pink raises money on behalf of Breast Cancer Care who, regardless of age group, culture or background, offer skilled, emotional and practical support through a range of confidential face-to-face services.

In its first two years, Premiere Pink, raised over £20,000. Online donations to Premiere Pink can be made via Ohr Yisrael’s online booking page www.bookwhen.com/ohryisrael until the end of November with more information available via www.breastcancercare.org.uk.
