Wizo’s tour de force

Our community is blessed with a wealth of philanthropic organisations, but few can boast the longevity and achievements of Wizo — whose projects were showcased during a trip to Israel for winners of its annual Commitment Awards. Founded in 1920 by three British Jewish feminists, Wizo’s success was once attributable to a loyal following of grandmothers, mothers and daughters — many of them self-professed homemakers. But now, members worry that, in a society of working women, support will not be as readily forthcoming — even though the tour proved that Wizo can adapt itself and forge a new path for the 21st century.
