Kosher revolution?

Grumbles about the rising cost of kosher food are as common as a rumbling tummy — but is there hope on the horizon? The growing popularity of kosher dishes, as described by producer Adam Bass this week, could create a series of opportunities for British Jews. With Sephardi and Israeli menus attracting foodie-types across the country, the demand for products more commonly found in Jewish homes is sure to rise. Combined with ever-growing dietary requirements among mainstream consumers — non-dairy items, allergen laws and more — a revolution could be on its way, with ever greater space for kosher items on supermarket shelves as the result. Even a small increase in production would have a positive impact on cost and availability. Kosher pie in the sky? Let’s hope not.
