I hope you are keeping your cool - and enjoying this fabulous weather. I refuse to complain. If, however, you are feeling a little weary and soggy around the edges, here are a few simple tips:

Freeze your fruit:

In hot weather, my children ask for ice cream about 20 times a day. I buy mini lollies, which makes me feel better about allowing them to eat one, but actually is counterproductive, as you need to eat two or three.

The alternative is to freeze fruits. I've been keeping a bag of washed and picked grapes in my freezer together with a bag of sliced, frozen banana discs.

Eat them straight from the freezer (watch your gums if you are of a certain age) and they are the perfect, icy treat. Even my children, sugar fiends that they are, will accept them instead of a lolly. Win win. We eat them during the England football games. Watermelon is also good for this, but we've not frozen ours yet.

Flavour your water:

Water can get a tad tedious. I keep jugs and bottles fridge told and add flavourings to some of them. Use a vegetable peeler to create long ribbons of cucumber, slice limes and pop in whole sprigs of mint to create something far less dull. You'll also feel saintly as you wave away sugar or chemical laden fizzy drinks and squashes.

Keep it cold:

Not rocket science but once you've tried this you will not go back. I use an insulated bottle so my drink is always chilled.

Whatever the weather, I shlep a bottle of water around with me. Not a disposable one - currently public enemy number one - but the refillable type.

I was sent a Corkcicle canteen from Root 7, and I'm officially in love. Pour in fridge cold water and it will stay that way ALL DAY. Well, it will stay cold all day if you don't drink it all in minutes, as I have been. The point is that it stays cold. You need one in your life. Especially as they come in all sorts of gorgeous colours.
