But not many will attempt the 26.2 miles in a huge nine foot tiger suit.

He is on the way to reaching his target of raising £15,000 for Exodus's Tiger Projects Bandhavgarh.

President Shimon Peres led senior members of the Israeli government, including Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in a rousing chorus of Yom Ha’atzmaut songs during the celebrations at his home.

The special celebration was attended by Mr Netanyahu, Defence Minister Ehud Barak and Gabi Ashkenazi, the army chief of staff.

The songs were specially selected by each of the leaders. They entertained a crowd of 120 “outstanding” IDF soldiers, IDF and Palmach veterans.

Yom HaShoah memorial in Hyde Park

The Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks and Holocaust survivors took part in a candle lighting ceremony on Sunday in Hyde Park to remember the Holocaust.

Survivors and their children and grandchildren lit candles to remember those who were murdered in the Holocaust at the event to mark Yom Hashoah.

The shofar was sounded and a minute's silence was observed.

David Miliband accuses Israel of forging passports

The Foreign Secretary David Miliband has declared his disappointment with Israel in a statement to the House of Commons in which he accused Israel of faking British passports and confirmed he had expelled an Israeli diplomat.

Based on the sophistication of the technique used to clone the passports, Mr Miliband said: “The government judges it is highly likely that the forgeries were made by a state intelligence service.”

He said that the fact that the UK considers Israel a close ally “was adding insult to injury”.

Nigella Lawson opens Jewish Museum

Celebrity cook Nigella Lawson and broadcaster Alan Yentob led the celebrations at the official launch of the Jewish Museum in Camden, which has undergone a £10m restoration.

Housing an impressive display of ancient Judaica, a Holocaust exhibition and scenes of London Jewish life through the ages, one of the highlights includes a medieval mikvah dating from 1270.

The Camden museum also promises to showcase Jewish life in Britain by using technology to bring history to life.

Egypt's newly restored synagogue

In Cairo’s ancient Jewish quarter, the ruined Ben Maimon synagogue has undergone a seven month restoration.

The synagogue held a dedication ceremony last week, amid a heavy security presence which cleared a 500 metre area around the shul.

The dedication ceremony included several Egyptian Jewish families, Carmen Weinstein, head of Egypt's Jewish community, Yitzhak Levanon, the newly-appointed Israeli ambassador to Egypt and the US, Canadian and French envoys.
