Mossad director meets Turkish intelligence chief

The head of Israel’s secret service met Turkish officials in Ankara on Monday.

Mossad director Tamir Pardo had a meeting with Hakan Fidan of the Turkish intelligence agency.

According to sources, the two discussed the Iranian nuclear programme, threats from Syria and greater intelligence co-operation between Israel and Turkey, as well as the current protests in Turkey.

Women to appoint rabbinic judges in Israel

The Israeli government has passed a bill obliging the committee that appoints rabbinical judges to reserve four spots for women.

The legislation was approved today at the end of a long Knesset meeting which began on Monday night.

Recovered diary by Hitler's aide sheds light on the Third Reich

A lost diary written by one of Hitler’s closest aides has been found in America.

The document, which disappeared after the Nuremberg trials in 1946, was written by Alfred Rosenberg, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity.

In New York, 20,000 Orthodox protest against draft

Thousands of Charedim gathered in New York yesterday to protest against the Israeli government’s moves to force the Orthodox to join the army.

The New York City police reported that 20,000 Charedim filled Foley Square in lower Manhattan holding banners which read “freedom of religion” and “Orthodox Jews will proudly go to jail rather than join the Zionist army.”

Danon says Israel opposes two-state solution

Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon has “given up” on Deputy Defence Minister Danny Danon after he told reporters that the Israeli government opposes a two-state solution.

Last week, Mr Danon told the Times of Israel: “Look at the government, there was never a government discussion, resolution or vote about the two-state solution.”

Mayor Morris is all Herts

Bushey Synagogue member Paul Morris has been elected mayor of Hertsmere — “the second of my two major public highlights,” he said. The first was the OBE he was awarded in 2011 for services to the Finsbury Park community.

One of his mayoral charities will be Langdon, which supports young Jewish adults with moderate learning difficulties. Rabbi Meir Salasnik will be his mayoral chaplain.

Israel releases conscientious objector

An Israeli conscientious objector has been released after five and a half months in jail.

Natan Blanc, 20, refused to serve in the Israel Defence Forces because of his opposition to the occupation and spent 178 days in prison.

Members of his family and Yesh Gvul – an organisation which supports conscientious objectors – greeted Mr Blanc when he was released earlier today.

US Secretary of State John Kerry told American Jewry that “we may not get another chance” to establish peace in Israel.

At Monday’s annual American Jewish Committee global forum in Washington, Mr Kerry implored the committee to show their support for a two-state solution in Israel.

Yossi Benayoun: antisemitism from Chelsea fans was 'worse'

Chelsea footballer Yossi Benayoun has revealed that the antisemitic abuse directed at him by the club’s own fans was the worst he has ever experienced in his 20 year career.

The Israel international described how at an away match against Liverpool last month Chelsea supporters yelled “Jew and other stuff that was worse” as he came on as a late substitute.
