The Abraham Fund Initiatives is a charity which is working to ensure that Israel keeps the promise made by its founders in its Declaration of Independence, that ‘The State of Israel will… ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all of its inhabitants, irrespective of religion, race or sex…”
It does this by:
- Conducting large-scale initiatives to promote coexistence, equality and a shared society between Israel’s Arab and Jewish citizens.
- Promoting government policies based on these initiatives.
- Educating Israeli citizens (both Jewish and Arab) about the importance of ending discrimination and building a shared, inclusive society.
Over one million Israeli citizens are Arabs, of which 83% are Sunni Muslim, 8.6% are Christian and 8.4% are Druze. Published research indicates that these citizens face unequal distribution of state resources, unequal representation in the workforce and wide socio – economic gaps, which has led to isolation and social separatism between Israel’s Jewish and Arab citizens.
With support from ministers, mayors, civil servants, teachers and community leaders, TAFI is able to work from within the system in order to effect real and lasting change, leading to a more secure, just and prosperous society. Building a shared society for Israel’s Jewish and Arab citizens will not just provide security and economic benefits for the State of Israel; it will also contribute to the achievement of a regional peace.
