I just read an interesting article in haaretz by Yossi Melman, entitled - 'Should, and can, Israel attack Iran's nuclear facilities'. I didnt though, see a mention of the enormous elephant in the room. Israel is already in possession of over 200 nuclear weapons.

Have a look at this leader in the economist. i ahve been spouting on similar lines all week. what do you think? or is the economist an 'anti-semitic' organ.

Whats to argue with? - nothing - so i wont. All the countries she lists have done terrible things. no decent person can defend those things, or argue that Israel is worse. But what does trouble me, is the implication that while israel does terrible things, so do lots of other countries, so its ok.

why i am not an anti-semite.

i believe the blood libel is a disgraceful slander against the jewish people.

i believe the protocols of zion are a lie and a forgery.

i believe that the jews have been victims of prejudice and inhuman treatment throughout much of their history.

i believe without reservation or qualification that the holocaust happened and that 6 million jews were killed by the nazis.

i believe that the jews are established in the land of Israel, and have right to live within the pre 1967 borders, without let or hindrance.

I have recently started a debate about the extent to which Israel is a normal country, and if not, might a future major military defeat have a positive outcome - one that may result in a rejection of militarism, and the evolution into a more 'normal state'. Interestingly, that blog has now been removed from the JC. Am waiting for editorial to tell me why.

Melanie Phillips (February 4th 2010) is as disingenuous as ever when it comes to (as she would see it) defending the Israeli state. It has been documented extensively that Israel played a very prominent role in pushing the US into war with Iraq. Just as it is now playing a prominent role into pushing the US into war with Iran – though on this occasion it is most unlikely to get its way.
