BBC Today programme complaint upheld

By Stephen Franklin, July 28, 2011

On the Today programme on 27th September last year “At midnight last night, the moratorium on Israelis building new settlements in the West Bank came to an end. It had lasted for ten months. What happens now? The question matters enormously because the Palestinians have always said there can be no real peace agreement while the Israelis are, as they see it, seizing their land”.

An emailed letter to the Israel boycotting councilors of West Dunbarton

By Stephen Franklin, June 3, 2011

West Dunbarton Council say that they are boycotting Israel because of the Gaza War of Dec 08 to Jan 09. I sent a letter to the councilors responsible for that decision, and a response by Cllr Jim Bollan has been published on Ynet (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4077577,00.html.

Life under bombardment of more than 100 rockets and mortars in last few days

By Stephen Franklin, April 11, 2011

I have just received an email with an eye witness account from a resident living in Kibbutz Kfar Aza near the Gaza border.

What has been happening has been described in the Israeli press http://www.jpost.com/VideoArticles/Video/Article.aspx?id=215913 but I think that the following first hand report makes it clearer what it is like to be under such a bombardment.

As I will show below it is not just Israeli law that justifies the annexation of Jerusalem.

By Stephen Franklin, March 26, 2010

The new head of BBC ethics, Aaqil Ahmed, who is telling Jews that they should think of Palestine during Passover, does not have a perfect track record for accuracy and impartiality.

BBC Trust dismissed incitement to child murder as "incorrect reference to content of Israeli maths curriculum"

By Stephen Franklin, March 7, 2010

Last December the BBC Trust exhibited such insensitivity to anti-Israel bias that the the continued role of this body in overseeing the BBC's adherence to impartiality should be reviewed.

The issue related to an interview on the BBC Arabic service http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1922.htm on October 17 2008, that was translated into English by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI)

BBC Trust sees no lack of impartiality in blatantly misleading reports

By Stephen Franklin, December 1, 2009

The summer of 2008 was not an exceptionally bad season in terms of BBC coverage of the Middle East, but after watching a programme by Jeremy Bowen on “The Birth of Israel” I had had enough of their biased reporting and decided to use their complaints system about four BBC News online reports, a Bowen interview in the Today programme and a totally extraordinary report in The Thirties in Colour. The complaint about the Birth of Israel is still within the BBC Trust complaints system, but the Trust have just published their rejection of other complaints that I made that summer.
