Joshua Nelson - Prince of Gospel - at Limmud Conference

We're excited that Joshua Nelson, the world's most famous Jewish gospel singer, is returning to join us again at Limmud Conference 2011.

Since he was last with us in 2006 his reputation has grown all over the world due to his legendary concerts and appearances in the US on the Oprah Winfrey show.

Limmud Conference 2009 - Finale

The final number of the Limmud Conference 2009 Closing Gala (31/12/09 - Warwick University, UK). Performers collaborating for the unofficial Limmud anthem - Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu - include Darshan (Shir Yaakov and Eprhyme), Josh Nelson, Naomi Less (Jewish Chicks Rock), Michelle Citrin ("Rosh Hashanna Girl"), Arnie Davidson (Project Ben David) and others. The 2,000 strong audience were off their feet and dancing in the aisles - something that British Jews aren't always known for!

Limmud's Contribution to the Jewish Community

Andrew Gilbert, former Chair of Limmud Conference, Limmud (the UK-based organisation) and founding Chair of Limmud International was honoured at the inaugural JVN Jewish Volunteering Awards in London in 2010. He becomes the first recipient of the HW Fisher Special Award for "Outstanding Work in the Jewish Volunteer Sector" for his 20+ years involvement as a Limmud volunteer and outstanding leader.

This short video sums up some of Andrew's thoughts on what makes Limmud unique within the Jewish community, in particular with regard to the ethos of voluntarism that drives all that it does.

Limmud: What gets you excited about Jewish Education

GD: To get people hooked back into Jewish text is amazing. Both intellectually and spiritually. The difference between intellectual study and Jewish textual study is that isn't just self-fullfilling. It connects you, even if indirectly, with other Jews.

Limmud: Intellectual pursuits can be a lonely business.

Late night revelling and early morning learning

‬Yesterday‭ ‬morning‭, 2,000 ‬people‭ ‬checked‭ ‬into‭ ‬the‭ ‬halls‭ ‬of‭ ‬residence‭ ‬of Warwick‭ ‬University‭, ‬England‭ ‬joining‭ ‬the‭ 500 ‬participants‭ ‬who‭ ‬have ‬already‭ ‬spent‭ ‬Christmas‭ ‬Day‭ ‬away‭ ‬from‭ ‬festivities‭ ‬and‭ ‬in‭ ‬a‭ ‬Shabbat ‬atmosphere‭ ‬instead‭. Participants‭ have been arriving‭, ‬weather‭ ‬conditions‭ ‬permitting‭, ‬from‭ ‬all‭ ‬over the‭ ‬world‭.
