Well, I am now back in the UK and the Maccabi adventure is over and I am sorry for not updating the blog sooner.

We lost our bronze medal play off 3-1 against Canada on Tuesday and I can’t really argue with the result. They had improved as the tournament went on and although our players showed even more commitment and energy than ever before, we were once again unable to find proper penetration in the final third.

More ups and downs for Team GB

By Judith Addleson, July 19, 2009

The good news is we are in a bronze medal play off vs Canada on Tuesday.

The bad news is we got completely turned over by Israel this morning.

I think I need a bit more time to think about why we got smashed today but I do think that playing at 11am is a bad time for us, as the day is reaching its peak temperature as we are tiring and being from such a temperate climate, we are just not good at dealing with it. It was about 34 degrees today, so really, really hot. Our play off match is at 4pm, so the heat will be subsiding as the game progresses.

Team GB 1-0 Brazil

By Judith Addleson, July 18, 2009

Rather than me write about this game, here is the Jerusalem Post’s report, which I would concur with!

Maccbiah Soccer: British women keep their cool to defeat fiery Brazil in Haifa

The British women's soccer team defeated Brazil 1-0 in a must win game on Wednesday that kept it in the running for a medal winning position. The game was hotly contested with two of Brazil's players sent off at the Ketzef Stadium in Haifa.

Hats off to the USA

By Judith Addleson, July 18, 2009

Twenty four hours after the euphoria of getting our first Maccabi points on the board against Canada, we were back in action against the USA. I have been told, but not have verified with every player, that most of the US squad consists of college players who are on sports scholarships. This means that they have to study a bit and then get to kick around a football for the rest of the day. Nice life...

Team GB 2-0 Canada

By Judith Addleson, July 14, 2009

Team GB is up and running and has got its first three points on the board. We felt that the Canadians were a stronger team than the Australians, who lost 7-0 to the USA today by the way. But we were absolutely up for winning this game. Ten of the 11 that started on Sunday started again today, so I found myself back on the bench, which of course was disappointing. We made a good start but all our early possession came to nothing and Canada enjoyed their best spell of the game in the latter stages of the first half.

Australia 1-0 GB

By Judith Addleson, July 12, 2009

A bad start for us, we lost to a single goal against Australia. We had a host of chances and couldn't take them and we also felt we had scored a goal but the ref said it had not gone over the line. We hit the post as well, but it was just not to be. We got caught on the break after about an hour and just couldn't turn things around. We had some good passages of play and created plenty, so we can take that forward into the next game.

We’re here!

By Judith Addleson, July 10, 2009

Firstly, sorry for not updating my blog sooner, but Maccabi GB have had us running round Israel like you wouldn't believe... here's a round up of the first three days. I will upload some more pictures tomorrow.

So there we were at Heathrow Airport, Terminal 1, some 200 or so excited Maccabi competitors all dressed in our unmissable blue tracksuits and bright blue polo shirts.

One journey ends and another one begins...

By Judith Addleson, July 5, 2009

Today (Sunday 5 July) we had our final get-together in the UK before we jet out to Israel on Tuesday. We met in a pub in Oakwood and Brad set some tasks for us to do about what we have learned from our training and our goals in Israel. I think by the end, excitement was really setting in and we all left on quite a high.

Could not seem to link this properly but it's from www.jewishtelegraph.com in the Sports section

Family affair as Lee coaches wife's team

FOR the first time ever, there will be a British adult women's football team at the Maccabiah Games.

And assistant manager Lee Bassin insists the team have "most definitely" got a chance of winning some medals.

Warm weather training

By Judith Addleson, July 1, 2009

I have been trying to make the most of the English heatwave by getting out and about in it as much as I can. Have cycled the 8.5 miles (each way) to work and back a couple of times, up and down the hills of Hampstead and Highgate to try and get my heart pumping in the hot weather - and to see how much water I need to drink before, during and after. I know the intense heat of Haifa will be different from the heat in London, but every little helps!
