To Russia with love as liberators are thanked

Anne Frank's stepsister spent Holocaust Memorial Day in Moscow, thanking Russian veterans who helped to liberate her and others from Auschwitz.

Eva Schloss, 82, spent six days in the Russian capital in temperatures as low as -15 degrees.

"I have always wanted to go to Russia to meet the army veterans," she said. "It was very emotional for me, really very special.

Kisharon centres could shut in service revamp

Learning disability charity Kisharon could close day centres in Hackney and Golders Green to facilitate users' greater integration within the mainstream community.

Protests force end to Nazi surgical tools sale

"Ghoulish" surgical tools belonging to a Nazi war criminal have been withdrawn from auction in Cornwall this weekend, after a furious series of protests to the auctioneers.

Special-needs pupil barred from Israel trip

The father of a 14-year-old King Solomon High School pupil with moderate learning disabilities is "bitterly disappointed" that she is not being allowed to join the Redbridge school's Israel trip.

But King Solomon teachers maintain the girl is unsuited to a mainstream school and have "health and safety" concerns about her going on the Israel tour in May of next year.
