Body of missing yeshivah student found

The Israeli police have confirmed that they have identified the body found in the Jerusalem Forest on Thursday as American yeshivah student Aaron Sofer.

The body was discovered in the forest by volunteers from United Hatzalah after a six day long search for the young man.

Holocaust Educational Trust pays tribute to Richard Attenborough

The Holocaust Educational Trust has paid tribute to Oscar-winning film director Lord Attenborough who died on Sunday aged 90.

The trust said: "The legacy of Richard Attenborough's work in film will always be remembered by millions. But they should also remember him and his family for the safe refuge they provided for the two Jewish girls, Helga and Irene, fleeing Nazi persecution."

Malky Mackay apologises over ‘disrespectful’ texts

Former Cardiff City football manager Malkay Mackay has apologised for sending two text messages which he admitted were “disrespectful of other cultures”.

But Mr Mackay said the messages were part of “friendly text message banter”.

It is alleged that he sent a number of texts which were antisemitic, racist, homophobic and sexist.

Sun, song and solidarity on south coast

Hundreds from across the country gathered in Brighton on Sunday, waving flags, holding placards and singing Hebrew songs in a national pro-Israel rally organised by Sussex Friends of Israel (SFI).

Police at the scene said there were 300-plus pro-Israel supporters at the event while SFI put the figure at 1,000.

Ex-Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay accused over racist text messages

Former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has been reported to the FA after a series of racist and homophobic text messages were found by police, according to the Daily Mail.

Referring to Jewish football agent Phil Smith, a text from his phone said: “Go on fat Phil. Nothing like a Jew that see money slipping through his fingers”.

Russell Brand denies he called for Israel boycott

Russell Brand has strongly denied that he called for a boycott of Israel by urging supporters to sign a petition by the online campaign website Avaaz.

The petition, addressed to the chief executives of major global companies, including Barclays, Hewlett Packard, Caterpillar and G4S, calls on them to withdraw their investments from Israel in order to be “on the right side of history”.

Hamas commander Mohammed Deif ‘may be dead’

Israeli intelligence officials have told Fox News that Hamas’s chief military commander, Mohammed Deif, may have been killed in Wednesday’s airstrikes across Gaza.

The report is the first public statement by Israeli sources that Deif could be dead.

Israel exits truce talks as Hamas breaks ceasefire

Israel has recalled its negotiating team from Cairo after three rockets fired from the Gaza Strip struck open areas near Beersheva and Netivot.

The attack came hours before a full ceasefire agreement was due to be signed between Israel and Hamas.

The temporary five-day truce between the two sides was extended by another 24 hours last night at the request of the Egyptian mediators.

Hundreds turn out for Brighton Israel rally

Hundreds of people turned out for a pro-Israel rally in the centre of Brighton at the weekend.

Activists included Christian supporters who made the journey from as far away as Wales and Yorkshire.

Police officers at the scene said there were more than 300 demonstrators. But the organisers, Sussex Friends of Israel put the figure at 1,000 people.

Lincoln's arch heritage

UN’s Gaza war crimes investigator has anti-Israel history

Hamas say ceasefire will be renewed

UPDATE: Hamas will start a new unofficial truce at 8pm local time, according to Palestinian sources close to the ceasefire negotiations in Cairo.

Early reports from Egypt indicate that only minor disagreements remain between the two sides.

The previous three-day Gaza ceasefire expired at 8am local time as talks broke down amid rocket fire from Hamas and retaliatory air strikes by Israel.
