ZAKA launches new firefighting ATV unit in Northern Israel

At a moving memorial ceremony for the Carmel Forest fire victims to mark the end of the thirty day mourning period, the ZAKA Rescue and Recovery Organization launched its latest tool in its ongoing efforts to save lives in emergencies - three fully-equipped ZAKA Firefighting ATVs, part of a new unit established in memory of the 44 Carmel forest fire victims who gave their lives while trying to save others. The ZAKA Firefighting ATVs, donated by the Chairman of the ZAKA International Board of Directors Michael Mirilashvili and the President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Dr.

If you are you in Israel on 4 January, please join ZAKA for a memorial ceremony for the 44 victims of the recent Carmel Forest fire and the launch of the first ZAKA Firefighting ATV Unit in the names of the police officers killed. The ceremony,which will include a demonstration of the firefighting ATV’s capabilities,will take place with the participation of Interior Minister Eli Yishai, bereaved families, dignitaries, police and fire officers, and ZAKA volunteers and commanders on Tuesday, 4 January 2011 at 19:00 at the Nir Etzion Hotel on Mount Carmel. Refreshments will be served.

ZAKA's emergency response of a different kind

It was an emergency response of a totally different kind for the volunteers in the Israel-based ZAKA organisation.

While the blizzards play havoc with flight schedules in Europe, ZAKA – best known for its immediate response in times of emergency and tragedy – moved into high gear late Friday afternoon. Word came in of a Swissair flight, delayed several hours by the snow, that was due to arrive in Ben-Gurion Airport less than an hour before the onset of Shabbat, with dozens of Orthodox Jewish families who would be unable to travel on to their final destination in time.

Interior Minister praises ZAKA for their sacred work at forest fire

In the early hours of Sunday morning, shortly after midnight, (5.12.10), Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Eli Shai paid a surprise visit to the ZAKA volunteers in the Carmel forest to praise their dedication and offer encouragement as they continued their sacred work.

The British Friends of ZAKA is honoured to invite friends and supporters visiting Israel this week to attend the dedication ceremony of four Rapid Response motorcycles to the humanitarian volunteer organization, donated by British resident Mr. Joseph Kiersz and family.

The motorcycles, all equipped with life-saving medical equipment, will join ZAKA’s national fleet, saving lives at accidents on the road and in the home and at terror attacks or other emergency incidents.
