Israelis hardly need fur coats. I live in Canada and I don't need one! There is no Torah decree that men should wear fur hats. It's a fairly recent tradition and fake fur would work just fine. Personally, I don't object to an animal being humanely killed for its pelt, but if it cannot be humanely killed, don't kill it. That's part of Jewish law. We don't want blood diamonds and we don't want blood coats and hats.
