Republic of Flixton showed they mean business in this year’s Peter Morrison Trophy after dumping out MSFL side Chigwell Athletic in the National Round.

The MJSL league leaders were too hot to handle for the MSFL Division One side and moved through to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Saul Shapiro and Rob Jacobs.

Crumpsall 2nd has folded after revealing they could no longer field a team in the Manchester Jewish Soccer League.

MJSL secretary Paul Rose told the JC: "Crumpsall FC advised the MJSL that they could no longer field a second team even though they have over 40 players registered.

Republic of Mancunia crushed Crumpsall 2nd to get their MJSL title challenge back on track.

Daniel Garman and Adam Tauber both scored hat-tricks as Republic hit 12 against a Crumpsall 2nd side which sits bottom of the league.

Saul Shapiro’s brace and further goals from Anthony Jacobs, Daniel Selwyn, Rob Jacobs and Steve Garman completed the rout.

Leeds Students will bounce back, says Rose

MJSL secretary Paul Rose insists the loss of the Leeds Maccabi Students team does not spell the end for Jewish football at the University.

The side, which replaced Hyde Park Rovers during the summer, has folded after failing to fulfil its fixtures.
But Rose expects a student side to be welcomed back into the MJSL next season, despite the recent struggle.
