Campus Extremism: University Heads are "Taking the Mick" - Time for Government to Step In ...

By Jonathan Hoffman, January 16, 2010

The alleged Christmas underpants bomber Abdulmatalab was formerly President of the Islamic Society at UCL. He is the fourth President of a London student Islamic society to face terrorist charges in three years.

IJPR Survey: A Missed Opportunity?

By Jonathan Hoffman, January 8, 2010

When I read that IJPR were doing a survey of attitudes of British Jews towards Israel, I was delighted. Those of us committed to activism and Israel advocacy know that support for Israel runs deep (if all too often silent!) among British Jews. Witness the numbers who turned out at the demonstrations in London (over 15,000) and Manchester (2,000) almost exactly a year ago, despite bitterly cold weather and a hoax cancellation email (London) from Jewdas. Or remember the large sums donated via the ZF to buy care packages for IDF soldiers.

Viva Veritas!

By Jonathan Hoffman, January 6, 2010

This also appears on Cifwatch

The Guardian website today carried a report about the clashes between the aid convoy led by George Galloway and the Egyptian police. Of course the article demonised Israel:

Israel's strict blockade of Gaza, which has been in place for more than two years, prevents all exports and limits imports to a few humanitarian items.

Extremism in Universities - ZF Press Notice

By Jonathan Hoffman, January 2, 2010

ZF Press Notice, 1.1.2010

The alleged attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to blow up an airliner over Detroit on Christmas Day has focused attention on the major issue of extremism in British universities. He is the fourth President of a London student Islamic society to face terrorist charges in three years and while he was in London he reportedly attended talks given by the extremist Anwar al-Awlaki who has links to Al-Qaeda.

Israel: Galloway plumbs new depths

By Jonathan Hoffman, December 30, 2009

George Galloway plumbed new depths of mendacity and nastiness with his column on 28 December (“Dark Echoes of the Holocaust”)

MCB: How Wrong Can You Be?

By Jonathan Hoffman, December 24, 2009

The Muslim Council of Britain has written to Foreign Secretary David Miliband to protest at his seeming willingness to change the Universal Jurisdiction legislation to prevent individuals being able to achieve arrest warrants - as happened just over a week ago in the Tsipi Livni case.

ZF Letter sent to DEFRA

By Jonathan Hoffman, December 13, 2009

17 Smith Square

Dear Hilary Benn

The Zionist Federation was very disturbed to see the ‘labelling’ advice released by DEFRA on 10 December. I set out below six reasons why the advice is misplaced.

First, you are singling out Israel . There are many other conflict areas in the world, for which DEFRA has not advised separate labelling, eg Tibet, Kashmir, Northern Cyprus, Chechnya, Kosovo, parts of Bosnia or even places like Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands and Northern Ireland.

Stay Away from Gordon Brown's Chanuka Candle Lighting on Wednesday...

By Jonathan Hoffman, December 13, 2009

I urge those invited to Gordon Brown's Chanuka Candle Lighting ceremony on Wednesday to stay away.

This is the government that has said Israel's action was "wrong and counterproductive";

Whose foreign secretary agreed that Israel's action was "disproportionate";

Which gave £35,000 to Breaking the Silence - a group of dissident IDF veterans;

Which began a partial arms embargo on Israel, on the grounds that the Israeli ships for which the parts were destined were supposedly engaged in acts of "internal repression";

New Charity Commissioner may not be good news for campaigners against anti-Israel Charities

By Jonathan Hoffman, December 4, 2009

The Labour Government - with its representative Dame Susie Leather as chair of the Charities Commission - may just have made life even harder for those of us campaigning against anti-Israel Charities such as War On Want. It has replaced a retiring Commissioner by the Secretary General of Amnesty International (Amnesty is not even a Charity!)

Irene Khan has also worked more than twenty-one years at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Ex-Ambassador Thinks Jewish Historians Can't Be Trusted ...

By Jonathan Hoffman, November 23, 2009

Hat tip: Judy of Adloyada

Richard Ingrams is a vile man who has a problem with Jews. He tends to disregard letters in support of Israel in the newspapers if the writer "has a Jewish name". And more recently he suggested that two of the historians on the Iraq War Enquiry Panel could not be trusted to be objective because they were Jewish.

Stephen Sackur demolishes Shlomo Sand

By Jonathan Hoffman, November 20, 2009

Yet again Sackur shows that he's the best interviewer in the BBC........... compare this with Jacqueline Rose's obnoxious sycophancy ..

What 'Dispatches' Tonight Won't Tell You..........

By Jonathan Hoffman, November 16, 2009

Five things I guarantee you won't learn tonight about the all-powerful 'Israel Lobby' in the UK:

- It failed to persuade the UK to veto Goldstone in the UN
- It failed to persuade the UK not to start an arms embargo on Israel
- It failed to persuade the UK Foreign Minister not to call Cast Lead 'disproportionate'...
- It failed to stop the UK financing Breaking The Silence
- It failed to persuade most Labour MPs in 'Labour Friends of Israel' not to keep stumm when it comes to asserting Israel's right to defend its citizens....

"The Iran Lobby" by Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer

By Jonathan Hoffman, November 14, 2009

Did you hear about this new book?

Neither did I.

And I doubt you will either - despite this:

"Iran advocacy group said to skirt lobby rules"

An Open Letter to Peter Oborne and Channel Four

By Jonathan Hoffman, November 12, 2009

Dear Mr Oborne

I read that "on Monday night, Channel 4’s Dispatches programme will focus on what it calls “one of the most powerful… least transparent lobbying groups in the UK”, the pro-Israel lobby."

Apparently you insinuated "that a cabal of wealthy Jewish businessmen secretly fund the pro-Israel lobby."

ZF co-Vice Chair Blasts Board's 'Macavity' - by JC Muckraker

By Jonathan Hoffman, November 7, 2009

Jonathan Hoffman was given just an hour before the JC's deadline on Wednesday to respond to this attack, at a time when he was busy with his dayjob. He says "I wonder whether the timing was deliberate on Lewis' part, to ensure I had as little time to respond as possible".

He has three points to make in addition to the 'sour grapes' one made in the article.
