Time to shake all the winners by the hand

Traditionally, at this time of year, I'm inundated with requests to attend a variety of end-of-season award ceremonies. There are very few gaps in my diary over the next few weeks, but unfortunately I'm unable to accept each and every invitation.

I attended the JFS Sports Awards the other day and was blown away by the talent on show in what was a professional production.

Alex Shalitov admits he must raise his game after claiming bronze at the European Championships in Bulgaria.

Shalitov, 27, failed to reproduce the form which saw him win gold 12 months ago, but he says he was satisfied with his podium finish following a spate of injuries.

Manager Darren Dryer led the 11-player squad into an eight-team tournament at the American School in Even Yehuda.

The competition - organised each year by the Ben Dror family – is played in memory of former Israel national team player Israel Ben Dror.

Brilliant Brady U10s hit high fives

Brady Maccabi won the under-10 competition at hte Maccabi 5's in Mill Hill.

A team featuring Ben Tibber, Daniel Dutch, Jordan Smith, Freddie Martin, Taylor Rosen, Sam Meisel and Brandon Roach won all five group matches, including convincing wins over both Alyth teams and both Hendon (HIS) teams and their own Brady under-9’s.

Julia Glushko stormed into the third round of the Women's Singles at Roland Garros following a stunning win over world no. 22 Kirsten Flipkens.

Israel's Glushko showed no signs of tired from her first-round win over Donna Vekic - a match that lasted two-and-a-half hours - as she produced one of the best performances of her career and progress 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Sela and Peer tumble out at French Open

Shahar Peer's woeful run of form continues after she crashed out in the opening round of the French Open at Roland Garros.

Peer simply had no answer to the power of 18th seeded Canadian Eugenie Bouchard who romped home 6-0, 6-2 in 59 minutes.

There was also misery for Dudi Sela who bowed out in four sets against American Donald Young in the Men's Singles.
