Levy helps South Manchester ease relegation fears

By Danny Caro, February 14, 2011

South Manchester eased relegation fears with an impressive win over Vida in the Accountants League Premier Division.

Manager Darryl Lee welcomed Toby Levy from China-albeit for one week ahead of this relegation six-pointer delighted

Incredibly from the kick off David Chaytow put Levy through and he chipped the keeper from 20 yards to put South in front before 30 seconds had ticked by.

Vida then resorted to a couple of physical challenges, which Lee, himself a referee, could not believe did not earn at least yellow cards.

Cullum clinches JLGB's second league win

By Danny Caro, February 13, 2011

JLGB secured the second win of the seasson after a hard fought game at Edgwarebury Park.

The pitch was barley playable, but JLGB showed the greater desire to take the points.

A handball gave JLGB an early penalty which Paul Black dispatched with aplomb.

Life got back into the game with a good finish, but JLGB were soon back in front after a James Wright flick caused havoc in the Life box from a Matt Rhodes throw. Lifes defenders could not deal with it and it was headed into their own net.

Half time came and JLGB were deservedly in front.

Jewish football identity scandal

By Danny Caro and Marcus Dysch, February 11, 2011

When a Sunday footballer proudly posted pictures of himself in action on Facebook he had no idea he was about to become embroiled in one of the biggest rows in the Jewish game.

For he should never have been playing at all - he had been suspended over claims he might not be Jewish.

And the only reason he managed to get on to the team sheet that day at all was because his manager had used a false name.

Now he, and others, are at the centre of an investigation into the fielding of ineligible players, a claim that has seen their club suspended indefinitely and fined heavily.

Jewish football - don't knock it until you've tried it

By Danny Caro, February 11, 2011

For some, no make that quite a few, around about 1,500 people in fact, the MSFL is the jewel in the crown. The numbers are lower in the MJSL but clearly, the demand is still there.

The rules are simple. You have to be Jewish to play. Rules are rules. Some people believe that the league has become stale and is in need of freshening up but the majority are of the view that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Perfect 10 inspires Neasden

By Danny Caro, February 10, 2011

Darren Yarlett was full of praise for his Neasden team who clinched their place in the last four of the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup after knocking out last season's winners in a game they played with 10 men for 75 minutes.

Player-coach Yarlett was in charge of the team as manager Jamie Cole was in Las Vegas. He limped off with a hamstring injury but masterminded a hard fought win from the sidelines.

A late strike from Lee Cash, his second of the game, plus one from Ben Ellis took Neasden through.

Pete Lazard and Ben Joseph were the marksmen for the Lions.
