Fox: Help us respect you

Martin Fox, the JC MSFL’s Referees Secretary, believes that the RESPECT campaign is a two-way thing.

Fox said: “I want everyone to respect the RESPECT campaign. I want to see more teams respect refs. I want to see more teams, win or lose, shake the hand of the ref and more sportsmanship. People must remember that it’s not the referee’s fault when a team loses.


Wolff: We have a lot to look forward to

David Wolff, chairman of the JC MSFL, believes that there is a lot to look forward to ahead of the new season.

Wolff, 66, has spearheaded the league for 41 years. He said: “The beginning of the season is always an exciting time. I’m pleased that we’ve increased the numbers, albeit slightly.”


Sela bows out against Federer

Dudi Sela put in a spirited performance before bowing out of the US Open – going down in down straight sets against Roger Federer.

Sela was left chasing shadows on the Ashe Stadium, succumbing 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 in 77 minutes.

“I had no chance against his serve, zero chance. "That's what's what I felt. Every point was so fast,” said Sela after his second round defeat.


Peer passes first hurdle

Shahar Peer is safely through to round two after beating former doubles partner Sania Mirza in the ladies singles at Flushing Meadows.

Victory came as a relief for Peer who had crashed out in the first round at Wimbledon and the French Open earlier this year.

Peer, 24, bounced back after losing a first-set tie-break to win 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.

I've returned just in time for the start of the JC MSFL season following two sun-soaked weeks in the Costa del Sol.

There were lots of familiar faces in and around Marbella, including Laurence Swerner, the Team GB Masters and London Maccabi Lions striker, and Team GB golfer Stephen Schindler.


Benayoun joins Arsenal

Yossi Benayoun has joined Arsenal. A dramatic day of negotiations ended on Wednesday night when the Israel captain signed a one-year loan deal at the Emirates.

Having been linked with moves to Spurs, Liverpool and Lille, Benayoun flew into Heathrow airport on Wednesday morning and completed his transfer from Chelsea just hours before the transfer window closed.

Sela to face Federer at US Open

Dudi Sela will play Roger Federer in the second round of the US Open after coming through a five-set thriller at Flushing Meadows.

Sela came from two sets down to beat world No. 35 Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 4-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-0.

Federer breezed through his first-round clash against Santiago Giraldo in straight sets.


Maccabi Tel Aviv to play Stoke

Maccabi Tel Aviv have been drawn against Stoke City in the group stage of the Europa League.

Maccabi will travel to Britannia on October 20 in what will be the third group match for both teams.

Tony Pulis’s troops visit Tel Aviv for the return match on November 3.

Besiktas and Dynamo Kiev complete the group.

Maccabi start their campaign against Besiktas in Turkey on September 15.
