Majestic Martyn helps Real Life make their point

By Danny Caro, January 11, 2011

They huffed and they puffed - but Real Life still could not chalk up a first league win of the season in a ding dong battle against Zig Zag in the mud at Edgwarebury.

In many ways they WEre indebted to goalkeeper Will Martyn who pulled off three world-class saves - twice in the first half and once in the second - that meant the spoils were shared. And they'll be thankful for the contribution of Rob Greene who popped up with two quality goals in the second half.

South Manchester 1st slumps

By Danny Caro, January 11, 2011

South Manchester slumped to third from bottom as Miam Miam extended their unbeaten run with victory with a 3-1 win in a bizarre contest.

Playing their first match in seven weeks against opponents that had lost three times in three seasons, South knew that they would have to bring their A-game to the table.

Miam Miam started with nine players and this seemed to unnerve South who were lucky not to go behind on 15 minutes but a fine save from Jody Marks kept the scores level.

JC Olim League review

By Danny Caro, January 10, 2011

A wonder goal from Yoni Sidi helped England FC maintain their 100 per cent record as they edged past Jerusalem in the battle between last season's top two finishers.

The meeting in Modiin saw England were looking to protect an perfect record against a Jerusalem side starting to find form at the right time.

Jerusalem were well marshalled by Dan Kosky and league veteran Danny Newman who were both outstanding at keeping the England team to little more than half chances and long shots in the first half.

Kayal: I'll take the plaudits but I'm no Neil Lennon yet

By Danny Caro, January 6, 2011

Anyone who saw Sunday's Old Firm derby would've been impressed by the performance of Biram Kayal. The Israeli would be the first to admit that one swallow does not make a summer but it was a hugely encouraging display from one so young.

He did everything it said on the packet, according to manager Neil Lennon, and already the comparisons between the player and manager have started.

Martin O'Neill played a huge part in Lennon's career and Kayal could not have a better mentor .

Stone calls for calm at Barnet

By Danny Caro, January 6, 2011

First-team coach Michael Stone admits that he is facing the biggest challenge of his career with strugglers Barnet.

Stone, 32, has been retained by the club who sacked manager Mark Stimson following the 2-1 defeat at home to Aldershot on New Year's day.

The Bees lie bottom of the table with 19 points from 23 games and Stone will now work alongside caretaker-manager Paul Fairclough and continue
his role with individual player
development.

Gold lays into his lame Lions

By Danny Caro, January 6, 2011

Tony Gold, the London Lions manager, is refusing to hit the panic button after his team started 2011 in disastrous fashion, going down 5-0 against Hoddesdon Town on Tuesday.

Gold's men started the match in sixth place in the South Midlands League Division One but they were left to rue a string of missed chances - and an inspired performance by home keeper Tom Bullock - against a Hoddesdon team playing its first competitive game since November 27.

Lennon: Kayal's my top boy

By Danny Caro, January 6, 2011

Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager, praised Israel midfield Biram Kayal following his match-winning display in his first Old firm derby.

The former Maccabi Haifa player had endured an injury-ravaged start to his career in Scotland since signing in July but produced a tigerish display in midfield in the 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox.

Lennon said: "He did exactly what we thought he was capable of. We brought him here because he is good at breaking the play up and strong in the tackle.

Wasteful Lions put to the sword

By Danny Caro, January 5, 2011

London Lions started 2011 in disastrous fashion after suffering their heaviest defeat of the season.

They went down 5-0 at Hoddesdon Town but the scoreline in this South Midlands League Division One clash does not start to tell the story as the Lions bossed the game in terms of possession and chances.

The Lions started the match in sixth place but they were left to rue a string of missed chances and an inspired performance by home keeper Tom Bullock against a Hoddesdon team playing its first competitive game since November 27.

JC Olim League round-up

By Danny Caro, January 5, 2011

After a slow start to the season by last year's runners-up, Jerusalem roared back to life following their recent return to form with an impressive 6-1 demolition in Modi'in.

Debutant from Chile Javier Mendez’s first touch in the JC Olim League could not have been better. A pin-point pass found Eli Warner on the edge of the box and the former North West Neasden striker composed himself to slot home into the bottom corner.

By Danny Caro, January 4, 2011

After a two-week winter break, the JC MSFL resumes with some mouth-watering action in league and cup.

JC CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP ROUND 3

BRADY MACCABI vs CAMDEN PARK
Brady Maccabi are one of the teams of the moment and I don’t expect Camden to cause them too many problems on Sunday in one of several cup ties held over from last year.

Josh Rosenfeld’s men have fired 23 goals in their last four games with Josh Hershman, Mark Smith and Steven Field bang in form. Field goes into the game in buoyant mood having bagged the JC Player of the Week award.

Maccabi Tel Aviv sacks Avi Nimni

Maccabi Tel Aviv have parted company with manager Avi Nimni.

The decision follows yesterday’s 3-0 defeat against league leaders Maccabi Haifa that left them eight points off top spot in Ligat Ha’Al.

A statement on Maccabi website said: “The Ownership feels that the team’s performances to date have fallen short of the clear goals and expectations set out at the beginning of the year.”
