Israel names 15-man squad for Maccabiah

Raymond Aston has been appointed captain of the Israeli Open cricket team at next month’s Maccabiah Games.

The host nation has selected a 15-man squad for the competition which gets under way on July 18.

Aston, who plays for Young Ashdod, will work closely with vice-captain Eshkol Solomon in a squad featuring four players from Raanana, including former skipper Herschel Gutman.

Wimbledon qualifiers: latest

Julia Glushko and Shahar Peer remain on course to qualify for the main draw at Wimbledon after winning their respective first-round match on Tuesday.

Glushko, the top-ranked Israeli female, beat Romanian Raluca Olaru 6-3, 6-4 on Court 7.

Peer ended the hopes of England's Melanie South with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory.

LMV 2nd comprehensively beaten

London Maccabi Vale 2nd XI suffered a comprehensive 133-run defeat against Bourne End.

LMV’s decision to put Bourne End into bat appeared to be the right one as a team featuring a mix of youth and experience made an excellent start to restrict Bourne End to 80-4 after 20 overs, thanks to some tight fielding and some good bowling.

WHAFC finished fourth at the annual Jom Havoetbal tournament in Amsterdam.

A goalless draw against Paris Ouest was followed by a 3-0 success over JPIG, with goals from Darren Saffer (2) and Rob Pearl.

Jason Friend and Jerry Asher helped WHAFC finish runners-up in their group following a 2-0 win over Bnei Akiva.

Nathan crowned as MSFL's best Young Player

The son of joint-manager Joel Nathan, the 18-year-old defender was in top form throughout the campaign in which he helped Brady Maccabi A lift the Peter Morrison Trophy.

Silver lining for Alyth Belsize

Alyth Belsize under-10's Reds finished runners-up in one of the junior events at the annual Jom Havoetbal tournament in Amsterdam.

Following on from the success and enjoyment of the Jom Havoetbal tournament last year, the club took two teams for the weekend.

The U10 Reds played up an age group this year, and were facing players aged 11 and 12 years of age.

UEFA EURO UNDER-21 CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
ISRAEL 1 ENGLAND 0

Israel bowed out of the Euro under-21 finals on a high after claiming a 1-0 victory over England on Tuesday night.

An 80th minute strike from Ofir Kriaf earned Guy Luzon's men their first-ever victory in the finals and meant that England finished bottom of Group A following three consecutive defeats.

Howard wins Player of the Year

Dan Howard paid tribute to his Faithfold teammates after he was crowned JC MSFL Player of the Season.

The 30-year-old centre half was the stand-out performer for a Faithfold team that completed a memorable double.

Howard played a starring role as Faithfold became the first Jewish team to win the London FA Sunday Intermediate Cup which was followed by claiming the Premier Division title.
