Mixed martial-arts expert Richard Baskin is particularly excited about tonight's Red Nose Day Comic Relief show on BBC One. He might be on it.

The 22-year-old is the founder of the Fuzion Mixed Martial Arts Project, set up earlier this year following a £7,500 grant from Sports Relief, part of the famous fundraiser Comic Relief, which supports underprivileged people in the UK and abroad.

Teenagers Ariella Midgen and Danielle Hill have been selected to play for Scotland's under-19 lacrosse team.

Glasgow-born Danielle (left), 18, and team-mate Ariella, 16, whose mother is Glaswegian, will compete in their first major tournament this weekend - the under-19 Home Internationals. Then there are the World Championships in Germany in August, plus a ten-day tour in the United States.

John Fisher pays a lasting tribute to a Leeds-based drama group

The JC's northern correspondent John Fisher has published his debut book.

Titled An Audience of Curious People, it is a history of the Leeds-based Jewish amateur drama group, Proscenium Players.

Mr Fisher, who lives in Alwoodley, Leeds, was a long-standing member of the group, which was founded in 1948 to raise money for Israel through its productions. It is no longer running.
