Laura Marks accused of 'flip-flopping' by rival for Board president Alex Brummer

Board of Deputies presidential candidate Alex Brummer has dismissed his rival Laura Marks, describing her as “flip-flopping”.

Speaking at a Liberal and Reform Judaism hustings on Wednesday, Mr Brummer said: “Here we have a candidate standing to be president of the Board of Deputies, who moved from a Reform Synagogue to join a United Synagogue one.

John Galliano is 'man of dignity' says rabbi who invited him to shul

John Galliano will speak at the launch of a West End of London Jewish learning programme sponsored by the Chief Rabbinate.

The fashion designer was invited to next month’s event by Central Synagogue's rabbi, Barry Marcus, who has helped him repair relations with the Jewish community after he was sacked by Christian Dior four years ago for an antisemitic rant in a Paris bar.

Hilary Swank to star as Lipstadt in film about Irving trial

Hilary Swank and Tom Wilkinson are set to star in a new film about historian David Irving’s attempt to sue Deborah Lipstadt for calling him a Holocaust denier.

Oscar-winning Ms Swank will reportedly play Ms Lipstadt, while it is unclear whether Mr Wilkinson will play a courtroom barrister or Irving.

Family’s relief as London teacher emerges unscathed from Nepal earthquake

The family of a British Jewish teacher spent several days terrified that he had been hurt or killed in the Nepalese earthquake – until he got in touch with them over the internet.

English teacher Simon Warner, a former JFS and Hasmonean High School student, said he was staying in a northern Nepal village when the earthquake hit.

IDF hits back after Palestinian rocket strikes Israel

A rocket was fired into southern Israel from Gaza on Thursday night, ending four months of relative calm in the area.

Israelis were called into bomb shelters after the emergency siren sounded in Sderot.

The Israel Defence Forces confirmed that the rocket exploded in an open area near kibbutzim. No one was injured in the attack.

American drone strike on al-Qaeda killed Jewish aid worker, White House reveals

American Jewish hostage Warren Weinstein – who was captured by al-Qaeda in 2011 – was killed in January by an American drone, it was revealed today.

The aid worker was abducted by terrorists from his home in Lahore, Pakistan. According to his daughter, Alisa Weinstein, the gunmen posed as neighbours offering food before abducting her father.

Shimon Peres in hospital for checks after “feeling unwell”

Shimon Peres pulled out of a business event on Monday after complaining of feeling unwell.

According to Israeli journalist Niv Elis, the 91-year-old former Israeli president was taken to hospital for checks.

Mr Peres was due to speak at an event for start-up company KamaTech which brings Orthodox engineers into the Israeli high-tech sector.
