MacKenzie: anti-Israel coverage is ‘a form of proxy for antisemitism’

Former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie has suggested that hostile media coverage of Israel is “a form of proxy for antisemitism by journalists in the West.”

Speaking to the JC at the annual dinner for the charity, Emunah, he said that he was “puzzled” by the anti-Israel stance generally adopted in the British media.

Danny Ayalon dropped from Knesset list

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon is the latest victim of the Yisrael Beitenu political reshuffle.

Party chairman Avigdor Lieberman, Israel's foreign minister, announced that Mr Ayalon would not form part of the next Knesset list for the January election.

The decision comes after two controversial party figures announced that they would also leave politics.

Bosnians say thanks on rescue anniversary

Former members of the Bosnian Jewish community brought to Britain from the war-ravaged country 20 years ago marked the anniversary with an emotional reunion at Jewish Care’s Wohl campus in Golders Green.

Along with World Jewish Relief and the American Joint Distribution Committee, Jewish Care was instrumental in assisting the Bosnians to escape and helped them adjust to life in the UK.

UK threatens to revisit EU trade agreements with Israel

Government sources have told Sky News that Britain has threatened to "revisit" EU trade agreements with Israel in the wake of Israel’s warning that it may build 3,000 new settlement homes east of Jerusalem.

Israel’s warning comes following the UN vote last week to upgrade the Palestinian Authority from ‘entity’ to ‘non-member observer’ status.

Ashley Mills, 25, from Brentwood, Essex, was treated for head injuries at the San Camillo hospital after the 1am attack at a pub in Campo de Fiori square.

UJIA helps teachers’ links with Israeli counterparts

Schoolteachers who have just returned from a UJIA-organised tour to Israel have described the current situation as “surreal”.

The 22-strong group of Jewish and non-Jewish teachers from seven Jewish schools in the UK, participated in the programme’s six-day seminar, which included tours around Jerusalem and teaching lessons at partner schools.
