Jewish Care's record £4.4m meal

Jewish Care raised a record-breaking £4.4 million at its annual dinner at Grosvenor House on Monday.
In the week after charity chairman Steven Lewis accused British Jews of becoming more "materialistic and selfish", more than 1,000 guests at the central London venue demonstrated their support for the community's largest welfare organisation.

Reuven Rivlin elected as the new president of Israel

Reuven Rivlin has been elected the new president of Israel.

The Likud party MK – widely known as Rubi Rivlin - will replace Shimon Peres as the 10th president, after 116 Knesset members voted in a secret ballot this morning.

After the second round of voting, Mr Rivlin received 63 votes, while MK Meir Sheetrit of the Hatnua party received 53.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were joined by international leaders – from US President Barack Obama to UK Prime Minister David Cameron – at the 70th anniversary service for the Second World War landings.

Ex-JFS boy shaken by jeers as he enters Big Brother house

Israel rejects Hamas-Fatah unity government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked international governments to reject a new Palestinian Authority government made up of representatives from Fatah and Hamas, a terrorist group.

Mr Netanyahu, who issued a statement ahead of the “swearing-in” of the new Palestinian cabinet today, said Hamas “was calling for the destruction of Israel”.

Glazer death prompts flurry of hate on Twitter

Dozens of antisemitic comments have been posted on Twitter following the death of Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer on Wednesday.

The American billionaire, who was descended from Lithuanian Jews, died aged 85 after suffering ill health following two strokes in 2006.

One Twitter user, under the name Calma_Uefalona, wrote: “Stupid jew finally died….. Yes thank u Lord” (sic).

Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer died on Wednesday aged 85.

The American Jewish billionaire, born in Rochester, New York, suffered ill health following two strokes in 2006.

He was said to have been experiencing impaired speech and limited mobility.
