Covering Israel is a tough job, says BBC director-general Lord Hall

Director-General of the BBC Lord Hall says the corporation aims to be balanced in its coverage of Israel, but that reporting on the country’s conflict with the Palestinians was “tough”.

Speaking to a 200-strong audience at ORT UK’s business breakfast on Tuesday, the corporation head said: “It is hard… tough. We do aim to give as impartial coverage as we can across the period.”

Tory MP Matthew Offord says no to Ukip

The Conservative MP for the constituency with the second highest number of Jewish voters has revealed that he was asked to defect to Ukip.

Matthew Offord, the MP for Hendon, said he was approached by Ukip treasurer Andrew Reid, who is a constituent.

"Andrew actually asked me to go to Ukip," Mr Offord said. "The treasurer of Ukip says I represent his point of view."

Purim arrest and gripes

A man has been arrested on suspicion of racial harassment after allegedly verbally abusing a boy celebrating Purim in Golders Green Road.

The 27-year-old was bailed to a date later this month pending further inquiries, police said.

Barnet police have also received complaints about over-zealous Purim fundraisers.

'I was banished for attending Israeli college'
