McDonald's rejects option to build in West Bank settlement

McDonald’s has rejected an invitiation to open a restaurant in a West Bank settlement .

Omri Padan, the owner of McDonald's-Israel, has reportedly declined a request to open one of the fast-food restaurants in a new shopping centre in the West Bank settlement of Ariel.

Grossman, Oz and Yehoshua fight eviction of Palestinian village

David Grossman, Amos Oz and AB Yehoshua are leading a campaign to stop the eviction of Palestinian villagers in the West Bank.

The three Israeli authors, together with 21 other writers, have signed a petition against the Israeli government’s decision to build a military base at the site where 1,000 Palestinian villagers currently live.

Are peace talks imminent? Rumours fly in Israel

Speculation is rife in the Israeli media that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has agreed to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the possibility of serious peace talks.

According to Israeli television, Mr Abbas has threatened to take unilateral action at the United Nations if Mr Netanyahu does not make a serious proposal during the meeting.

London diners collect £4.2m for Jewish Care

London Mayor Boris Johnson was the guest speaker at Jewish Care’s campaign dinner. In his address he told the 1,200 guests that the welfare charity “set a benchmark for standards of care in the country”. The event, held at Grosvenor House, in London’s Park Lane raised a record £4.2 million for Jewish Care’s support services.

Newly appointed Palestinian PM hands in resignation

Recently-installed Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah handed in his resignation on Thursday night.

According to Palestinian sources, the move followed a heated dispute between Mr Hamdallah and his two deputies, Mohammed Mustafa and Ziad Abu Amru.

The prime minister has been in office less than a month.

Jewish man shot dead at Western Wall

A Jewish man has been killed at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

Doron Ben Shlush, 46, was shot several times by a security guard on Friday morning.

The security guard, 25, told police that the victim yelled " Allah Akbar " , meaning " God is greater " in Arabic, and reached for his pocket. These movements led the guard to believe the man was about to commit a terrorist attack.

Israeli chief rabbi suspected of bribery and fraud

Police have raided the house of Israeli Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger.

On Thursday morning, Rabbi Metzger was interrogated on suspicion of bribery, fraud and money laundering. In 2004 the National Fraud Unit launched an investigation when they suspected he had accepted illicit perks while on holiday.

School in shock after head’s sudden death

Teachers, parents and pupils were in shock this week following the sudden death of one of Britain’s most respected headteachers.

Dena Coleman, the head of Yavneh College in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, died on Tuesday after contracting bacterial meningitis. She was 60.

Dr Coleman had fallen ill at the weekend during a visit to Bournemouth.

Mossad director meets Turkish intelligence chief

The head of Israel’s secret service met Turkish officials in Ankara on Monday.

Mossad director Tamir Pardo had a meeting with Hakan Fidan of the Turkish intelligence agency.

According to sources, the two discussed the Iranian nuclear programme, threats from Syria and greater intelligence co-operation between Israel and Turkey, as well as the current protests in Turkey.

Recovered diary by Hitler's aide sheds light on the Third Reich

The document, which disappeared after the Nuremberg trials in 1946, was written by Alfred Rosenberg, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity.
