Orthodox Londoner mics up as Olympian beatboxer

A 25-year-old Jewish Londoner is set for the summer of a lifetime - beatboxing his way through the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Daniel Brill is one of 300 successful applicants who will comprise the Coca-Cola entertainment squad. The ex-JFS pupil brings an extra dimension to the discipline - he is almost certainly the only one who combines beatboxing with a Jewish education.

Neil Diamond marries for the third time

American performer Neil Diamond married his manager Katie McNeil last weekend.

The 71 year old music legend wed Ms McNeil, 42, in Los Angeles, in front of close family and friends. "Katie and I got married last night, we wish you all could've been there," Mr Diamond posted on his Twitter account. "It was magical! Love, Neil."

Israel’s Masorti movement has agreed to ordain gay and lesbian rabbis.

The Israeli Conservative movement’s Schechter Rabbinical Seminary held a vote on Thursday to decide whether the institute would admit and ordain gay and lesbian students.

Weather blamed for Holocaust ceremony stage tragedy

Strong winds caused the collapse of a heavy installation and lighting rig on top of Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, which was being used for Independence Day rehearsals.

Ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), arrived at the scene within three minutes of receiving distress calls from witnesses reporting the incident.

One 20 year old woman died at the scene.

Artwork seized during Holocaust returned to owner's family

A Baroque painting taken from its owner during the Holocaust will be returned to an American Jewish family.

The original owner of the painting, Frederico Gentili di Giuseppe, an Italian Jew living in Paris, died in France in 1940 shortly before Nazi occupation.

Gunter Grass admitted to hospital

German writer and Nobel laureate Gunter Grass, whose recent poem criticizing Israel as a threat to global peace sparked widespread controversy, was admitted to hospital for a medical "investigation" earlier this week.

A spokesman at Asklepios Clinic in Hamburg said that the admission had been planned for some time but would not give any further details regarding Mr Grass's health.
