Ireland Upgrades the PA's Diplomatic Presence

The PA now has an Ambassador and an Embassy in Dublin, it's just been announced. Ireland's the first EU country to upgrade the PA's diplomatic status - probably won't be the last.
You'll remember how the JC told you (not) about all those Latin American countries recognising a State of "Palestine" within 1967 borders (Peru's the latest) - how long before the EU follows suit?

The Arizona Tragedy - Allegation that Ms Giffords was shot because she's Jewish

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (may she make a full and speedy recovery) is apparently a second cousin of Gwyneth Paltrow, and identifies as Jewish despite the fact that her mother, a practising Christian Scientist, is not.

For the allegation that she was deliberately targeted because she's Jewish, see:
Going Up from Down Under

Aliyah from Britain may be down (as reported on the JC website) but aliya from Australia and New Zealand is up by almost 50% (I guess that's what happens when you have a strong committed Jewry not afraid of its own shadow, and certainly not prone to do a Mick Davis as far as Israel is concerned.)

Here's the full report, by Henry Benjamin:

Aliyah from Australia and New Zealand has jumped almost 50% this year in spite of relatively low levels of anti-Semitism and a strong economy.
J-Wire asked Aviva Kogus of the State Zionist Council of New South Wales if there was any explanation.

She said: “People in this part of the world are very Zionistic…they have Israel in their hearts,” [Sure do, folks!]

She quoted the case of Aaron and Peta Pelach whose children already live in Israel. “They have been planning to make Aliyah for more than 35 years….and this year they did it. There is no formula as to why this increase is happening. Each case is individual.”

President of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry Dr Danny Lamm added: “”It reflects many factors which relate to the country involved. In Australia we have good aliya shlichut through the Zionist Federation of Australia. Coupled with the combination of youth movements, Jewish day schools and Israel experiences. Add the above to the strong Zionist identification worldwide in response to the concerted attacks in Israel plus the strength of Israel’s economy and the result is the excitement of life in Israel which is attracting Jewish people everywhere.”

In 2009, 175 people made Aliyah from Australia an d New Zealand. Figures release by the Jewish Agency show that the figure for 2010 has topped 260…250 from Australia and 10 from New Zeland.

Aviva Kogus added: “We have had young and old, singles and families…it’s across the board.”

Another South American Country Recognises the State of Palestine

Read all about it in the Jewish Chronicle - er, not.
They didn't report instances 1, 2, and 3, so why I guess it's not NIFty to report no. 4
Never mind Israel's troubles.
What's Israel to us, huh?
You can read about that tasty Denzil Washington in the JC, though.
LSE 's New Middle East Centre eradicates Israel

That Important South American News the Jewish Chronicle website overlooked

Here's the latest on that "Brazilian initiative" referred to on http://www.daphneanson.blogspot.com/

It comes from J-Wire and is an analysis by David Singer, of Sydney.

Palestine, Brazil and Argentina – Outing the Jew-Haters
by David Singer
As President of the Palestinian Authority (PA) Abbas refuses to recognize Israel as the Jewish National Home.
As Chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) – Abbas is sworn to enforce the provisions of its Charter which prescribes:
“Claims of historical or religious ties of Jews with Palestine are incompatible with the facts of history and the true conception of what constitutes statehood. Judaism, being a religion, is not an independent nationality. Nor do Jews constitute a single nation with an identity of its own; they are citizens of the states to which they belong.”
As Chairman of Fatah – the largest faction in the PLO – Abbas presided over a meeting of its Revolutionary Council on 27 November which resolved:
“The Council stresses the revolutionary rejection of the so-called ‘Jewish state’ and any formula [that] can be considered in future contribution to achieving this end, and renew this rejection of any attempt by a racist state based on religion, in accordance with international law and human rights charters…”
Abbas has gone even further and persuaded Brazil to out itself as a Jew-hating State by calling for the recognition of a Palestinian Arab State between Jordan, Egypt and Israel “on 1967 borders”.
There were no “1967 borders“ – as Brazil must surely know – only 1949 demarcation lines that had been established between
Israel and Egypt on 24 January 1949 and Israel and Transjordan (now called Jordan) on 3 April 1949 to designate the armistice lines where hostilities had ceased between the nascent State of Israel and the six Arab armies that had invaded it in May 1948.
Brazil’s recognition signifies that 500000 Jews presently living on the Arab side of those demarcation lines in the areas called the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) and East Jerusalem – will either have to voluntarily leave or be forcibly removed from their homes and businesses.
Brazil’s decision – which smacks of the infamous Nazi “Judenrein” policy that called for the mass deportation of Jews from their homes and businesses before and during World War 11 – is in breach of existing international law specifically:
Article 6 of the Mandate for Palestine – which recognized the right of the Jewish people to reconstitute the Jewish National Home in precisely the area that Brazil now wants to see cleared of Jews – which Brazil itself agreed to when the Mandate was unanimously approved by the League of Nations in 1922
Article 80 of the United Nations Charter – which reserved the rights of Jewish settlement granted by the Mandate – which had also been endorsed by Brazil when the UN Charter came into being.
Argentina has been quick to follow Brazil’s headlong rush into outing itself as a fellow Jew-hating state. Expectations are that they will be soon joined by Uruguay and some other South American countries.
Both Argentina and Uruguay were also – like Brazil – consenting signatories to the Mandate and Article 80.
One cannot stop people or States being Jew-haters but on the other hand they need to be identified and exposed. Racism and vilification of this kind have no place in humankind.
In the case of those States which choose to follow Brazil and Argentina – one would hope to see their citizens protesting loudly at such a decision. Standing by and doing nothing will only stigmatize the citizens of those States as Jew-haters.
Neither Brazil nor Argentina have made any call on the PA to recognize Israel as the Jewish National Home in return for the recognition they have now extended to the PA.
Brazil and Uruguay supported the creation of a Jewish State proposed by the UN in 1947. Argentina abstained.
All three countries became places of refuge for fleeing Nazis at the conclusion of World War 11. Their shadowy past seems to be coming back to haunt them.
Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay never recognized the attempted annexation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem by Transjordan in 1950.
Israel’s position on the status of these areas was explained by Israel’s then Foreign Affairs Minister – Moshe Sharett – in Israel‘s Parliament on 3 May 1950 as follows:
“The Government Spokesman issued the following statement, in the Government’s name: “The decision to annex the Arab areas west of the River Jordan to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a unilateral step to which Israel is not a party in any way. We are connected with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan through the Armistice Agreement, which we will uphold rigorously. This agreement does not include any final political settlement, however, and no such settlement is possible without negotiations and a peace treaty between the sides. It must be evident, therefore, that the question of the status of the Arab areas west of the River Jordan remains open as far as we are concerned.”
This position holds true today – with the exception that the areas cannot be described as “Arab areas” since they are now inhabited by 500000 Jews as well. Many of the Jews returning to live there after 1967 had been forced to leave their homes and businesses following Jordan’s conquest of the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1948.
Announcements by countries such as Brazil and Argentina signifying their assent to the wholesale deportation of this Jewish population once again sends a dangerous message of support to the 21 Jew-hating States comprised in the Arab League – which have unanimously endorsed the Saudi Peace Plan in 2002 calling for precisely such an outcome.
This call should be contrasted with the view expressed by President Bush to Israel’s then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on 14 April 2004:
“In light of new realities on the ground, including already existing major Israeli populations centers, it is unrealistic to expect that the outcome of final status negotiations will be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949, and all previous efforts to negotiate a two-state solution have reached the same conclusion.
It is realistic to expect that any final status agreement will only be achieved on the basis of mutually agreed changes that reflect these realities.”
Brazil and Argentina – and any other States that are attracted to follow them – have some serious explaining to do to justify their decision in endorsing an outcome in the West Bank and East Jerusalem that requires both areas to be completely cleared of Jews.

Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff Speaks Up for Israel

Love him or hate him, Geert Wilders gave a bang-up pro-Israel speech in Tel Aviv last Saturday, which the JC has, strange as it may seem, neglected to report. (Pull yer finger out, JC!) On 7 December an Austrian diplomat's daughter Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff gave this speech at a conference of the Alliance of the European Freedom and National Parties in Israel.
"Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am very excited to be here in Israel, and I thank former MK Eliezer Cohen for inviting me.
The State of Israel is a modern incarnation of one of the ancient sources of today’s civilization. Our civilization — Western Civilization — traces its origins to the confluence of Judaic, Hellenic, and Roman cultures in what eventually became Christian Europe.
This civilization is now under siege, both from without, and especially from within.
I am here today to represent two defenders of our civilization, the Citizens’ Movement Pax Europa — in German, Bürgerbewegung Pax Europa and ACT! for America.
Let me tell you more about each one.
Pax Europa is a European civil rights movement and a human rights organization. Our objectives are to protect not only the democratic, free, and secular rule of law in our country, but also to struggle for European culture based on the Judeo-Christian traditions and — especially — on the values of the Enlightenment. These are the values that are currently under threat throughout the nations of the West.
In order to achieve our objectives, we offer lectures, panel discussions, and conferences. In addition, Pax Europa also participates in the OSCE human dimension. We are an independent, non-partisan movement. We clearly distance ourselves from all right-wing or left-wing extremists and all xenophobic movements. Our sole purpose is to champion the values and freedoms that form the cornerstone of our civilization. Pax Europa is the enemy of anyone who threatens those values and freedoms, and the friend of anyone who defends them.
ACT! for America is the largest national security movement in the United States. It is an issues advocacy organization dedicated to effectively organizing and mobilizing the most powerful grassroots citizen action network in America. We are committed to informed and coordinated civic action that will lead to public policies that promote America’s national security and the defense of American democratic values against the assault of radical Islam.
As an ACT! for America international chapter leader from Austria, I wanted you to know just how much a safe and secure Israel means to me and to Brigitte Gabriel, our organization’s Founder and President who was able to save her life by escaping into northern Israel from war torn Lebanon in 1982.
We value you immensely! We work and fight and pray for you. We support Israeli-made products. We are constantly promoting pro-Israel rallies in the West. We are in your corner and at your side every step of the way.
Thank God for Israel. Know that we will do anything in our power to love, respect and defend you. May God bless you!
Ladies and gentlemen,
No civilization is eternal. Because Western Civilization has been in the ascendant for the last few centuries, there is a tendency to think that what we have built is the final state at which mankind has arrived — that we have reached, as Francis Fukuyama put it, “The End of History”.
This is hubris of the highest order, especially given all the indicators of the dangers currently faced by our civilization, both from without and from within. The signs may not always be obvious, but they are there, and they are growing in number.
The death of a civilization does not come only when sand dunes drift in over the rubble of a once-proud city. The end is not necessarily marked by an invasion of barbarian hordes, or the burning and looting of our homes and businesses.
A civilization can also die from within, when it forgets the core values that once made it great, when it stops believing in its own fundamental tenets.
The disappearance of civilizational self-confidence in Europe can perhaps be traced back to the unimaginable and pointless slaughter of the First World War, or to the Holocaust and other horrors of the Second World War, or to the ravages of seventy years of Communism, or to a societal enervation imposed on the continent by the socialist welfare state — or some combination of all of these.
Whatever the reason, European civilizational self-confidence is all but gone. This is why Multiculturalism has become the dominant ideology in Europe. This is why Europeans have imported millions of unassimilable foreigners. This is why we abase ourselves to the newcomers and accede to their every demand.
Islam is a threat to Europe because the heart of European civilization has already gone cold. If it were still beating, Islam would be of no more concern than it was a century ago, and millions of Muslim immigrants would not be among us.
Those of us who still love our civilization and what it stands for are on the front lines of a new war. People such as Geert Wilders and myself are on trial for speaking out in defense of our liberties and our democracy. Others have been silenced through intimidation, ostracism, and the threat of destitution.
The oligarchs who control the European Union are determined that there shall be no dissenting with their program of abolishing the peoples of Europe and replacing them with another.
This war is a quiet one. It does not involve guns and bombs and tanks and fighter jets. No corpses litter the battlefield.
But it is just as real, and at least as important as any previous war fought on European soil. On its success or failure depends the nature of the civilization that will reside in Europe over the next century — if, indeed, there will be any successor civilization at all.
And Israel is on the front lines of the very same war. Israel is surrounded by the barbarism and backwardness and destitution that awaits us all if we continue to surrender to the evil forces that would destroy Western Civilization. We have only to look at what has happened to Lebanon over the last fifty years to see the future that awaits a modern “multicultural” Europe.
And we only have to look a few kilometers to the south of this spot to see what Israel would be like if it were not inhabited by the Jews. A satellite photograph of the Gaza Strip reveals something telling: when you move a bit south from Ashkelon, or a bit west from Sderot, the rich and productive landscape of Israel abruptly ends and the vast wasteland of Gaza begins. This wasteland extends further south into Egypt, east into Jordan, and north into Lebanon.
Israel is an oasis of civilization in a desert of barbarism.
This is why Israel is so important to the struggle against the Great Jihad. Anyone who is committed to resisting Islamization will find in Israel a natural ally.
This is not a matter of Left and Right. Sharia has no respect for any of our political parties. It does not recognize the very foundation on which our diverse political structures rest.
Make no mistake about it: the fight against sharia is a fight to save civilization itself.
To discover the future of Europe and Israel if the door is not closed against expansionist Islam, examine what remains of Zoroastrian Persia, or Buddhist Afghanistan, or Christian Syria.
This is what awaits us if we do not act now. Our great civilization will be replaced by poverty and despotism and degradation.
Our civilization is ours to reclaim if we only have the will to do it.
Our moment has come.
Thank you."

Is BeBe One of Us?

Not Bibi (who's pretty darn fabulous too) but the fabulous BeBe - Brigitte Bardot.
The Javal family is a distinguished French-Jewish family of industrialists, bankers, medicos, etc which originated in Alsace. I believe the name Javal is unique to them. BeBe's papa was a Parisian industrialist and her birth name is often given as Camille Javal. Yet, on googling, I find that Camille Javal is in some sources given as the name of a character she played. Most confusing.
All this might, for many people, come into the "who the Hell cares" category, but at a time when all too many of us scramble to claim even the most "minor" celeb as of Jewish background, wouldn't it be fabulous to claim just a bit of BeBe!
Any genealogical sleuths out there who could provide the definitive word on Mlle Javal?

The Woking Mosque's Founder's Nephew was the True Author of the Balfour Declaration

This information first came to light in an article in "History Today" in 1999, but since then its author did more investigation in the Budapest genealogical archives, producing a full family tree for the well-known Tory statesman Leo Amery and a much fuller article regarding his attitude to Zionism and Israel.
'The Balfour Declaration – issued 93 years ago this coming Tuesday, 2 November, and in effect the State of Israel’s founding charter – bears the name of Britain’s Foreign Secretary, who signed it in the form of a letter to Anglo-Jewry’s de facto leader Lord Rothschild, who was asked to make its contents known to the Zionist Federation. It was authored not by Balfour but by the political secretary to Lloyd George’s Cabinet, Leopold (Leo) Amery (1873-1955). In October 1917 he was given several unsatisfactory drafts of what became known as the Balfour Declaration and asked to finalise it. To the resulting document the full cabinet (Amery was not a member, his first cabinet post being First Lord of the Admiralty in the “Die-hard” Tory administration of 1922) made only two minor amendments. One altered his promise of a “National home for the Jewish race” – an interesting wording in view of who and what its author was – to “Jewish people”. The other omitted the final seven words of his draft, which spoke of the rights “enjoyed by Jews in any other country who are contented with their existing nationality”.'
History Doesn't Have to be Boring

It can often yield unexpected gems.
I wonder what contemporary negotiators will make of this development, as reported by Yisrael Medad his blog:
East" Jerusalem? No. New Jerusalem Neighborhoods
Elliot Green:
Jerusalem has had a Jewish absolute majority population since 1853, according to the contemporary French historian and diplomat, Cesar Famin.
Thus, the notion of "Arab east Jerusalem" is a post-1948 invention.
Note:
"La population sedentaire de Jerusalem est d'environ 15,500 ames:"
("The sedentary population of Jerusalem is about 15,500 souls:")

Jews . . . 8,000 . . . Juifs
Muslims . .4,000 . . . Musulmans
Christians 3,490 . . . Chretiens
- - - - - - -------
. . . . . . . 15,490

This is the place for the name and other data about Famin's book: L'Histoire de la rivalite et du protectorat des Eglises chretiennes en Orient (Paris: Firmin Didot freres, 1853). The breakdown of Jerusalem's population is on page 49.

Appleton Marsh Plays With the Big Boys

That renowned metropolis, Appleton Marsh, twinned itself with Tiverton - and then with Gaza. I'm sure it Bibi gnashing his choppers in rage.
There's alot of twinning with Gaza being proposed, one way or another:

One frequently forgotten front in this “soft war” of isolation and delegitimisation is the practice of fostering anti-Israel public opinion by twinning towns, organisations and schools with Palestinian counterparts. It received an impetus with a scheme that commenced in 2005, when almost 20 British groups seeking to establish twinning projects, formal or informal, with localities and organisations in the Disputed Territories held a conference in London and, with encouragement from then Mayor Ken Livingstone, established the “Britain-Palestine Twinning Network”. The network (slogan "Political solidarity enhanced by grassroots friendships"), which holds its sixth conference on 27 November (theme "Building Bridges not Walls"), in that hive of anti-Israel activity, Bristol, helps groups to set up such links, share experiences, and avoid duplication.
The idea has taken hold in a number of countries, both in and outside the European Union and the British Commonwealth. For example, Dublin is linked to Nablus, as are Stavanger in Norway and Com in Italy; The Hague, Cologne, Assissi and Athens to Bethlehem; Graz in Austria is linked to Zababdeh; Alessandria in Italy to Jericho and Turin to Gaza; Barcelona is linked to Gaza; Arbizu, in Spain’s Basque region, is linked to in the Marda, West Bank; towns in France have established links with such places as Beit Sahour, Gaza, and Rafah as well as Bethlehem (a generally popular place for twinning, probably owing to its importance for Christians). The heavily Muslim suburb of Leichhardt in Sydney, Australia, has a link with Hebron, and Marrickville, also in New South Wales is officially twinned (since 2007) with Bethlehem, the Marrickville Council pledging to “support the people of Bethlehem in seeking peace and international understanding of their situation”. Dismissing claims that Hamas controlled Bethlehem, Marrickville’s Deputy Mayor stated: "But if you want to say who is truly in control of Bethlehem, which is unfortunately surrounded by Israel's so-called security wall, you could argue that Bethlehem is dominated by Israel more than anybody else. Marrickville Peace Group supported the move." There seem to be comparable developments in the United States.

Idiotic Demonisation of Israel from the Feministas

Phyllis Chesler has the situation well summed-up, in her final paragraph quoted below. But in the fight to delegitimise Israel, anything goes!

It’s now official: Apartheid is a feminist issue. For years, I [Phyllis Chesler] have been challenging feminists to take up this cause. Had I finally found oil, discovered gold?
I received an invitation via email, both in English and in French, which began:
Calling all feminists…We are inviting you to participate in the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sections) 2010 Conference…from October 22 to 24, 2010, artists, academics, activists…and concerned individuals will converge upon Montreal for this historic conference, which aims to consolidate and push forward the global movement for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions against Israeli apartheid…”The Conference workshop ‘Israeli Apartheid as a Feminist Issue’…[will] explore ways in which feminist organizations in Quebec, Canada and beyond can contribute to the BDS movement.
Ah, for a minute there I thought the conference would actually address real apartheid, namely that which is practiced by Islam in terms of both gender and religious apartheid; and indeed, in Gaza and on the West Bank, where honor-related violence, including honor killings, normalized domestic violence, forced veiling, polygamy, arranged child marriage and Arab female illiteracy, is rife and rampant.
No such luck.

The worst US president in living memory (bar Obama) has been sounding off again - methinks he's been eating too many nuts, proving that you are what you eat:

Former US President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that Palestinians are "living in a cage" in Gaza and that the militant group Hamas must be included in all major efforts for peace.
Carter was in Syria with an international group of veteran statesmen known as the Elders, which includes Ireland's former President Mary Robinson, and sets out to offer "collective influence and experience to support peace building."
Liquid Gold under the Negev?

New Survey Indicates Large Oil Field Buried Under Negev Sand
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

A new preliminary geological survey indicates 26 million barrels of recoverable oil—worth $2 billion—may be sitting underneath the sandy soil in the area of two kibbutzim in the Western Negev, near Gaza.

Energtek announced it has received a geological survey on the Nir-am—Sa'ad block, “identifying the potential for exploitable oil and natural gas reserves.” Its subsidiary Energtek Products has the exclusive license to explore and exploit the resources in the area.

The firm added, “Current estimates will need to be confirmed by additional studies. Additional seismic analysis, modeling and further verifications are required to compile more accurate data on the fields and to provide more accurate reports on actual recoverable reserves.”

Besides the estimates of oil at a depth of 2,000 meters, or approximately a mile and a quarter, the preliminary survey also reports an additional estimate of 12 million barrels of recoverable oil at depths of up to 4,000 meters, worth $900 at current prices.

Group linked to New Israel Fund makes a Blood libel

Blood Libel: NIF-Linked Group Blames Israel for Leukaemia in Gaza

by Gil Ronen
An international organization closely linked to the New Israel Fund (NIF) has blamed Israel for causing an increased incidence of leukaemia in Gaza, while claiming that Hamas suffers from unfair discrimination and has the right to “self defence." The organization also characterized Israel as “bleating” about anti-Semitism and accused its soldiers of "merrily" shooting innocents.
The organization is the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), a 95-year old pacifist group that has a United Nations office and national sections in 37 countries, including Israel and “Palestine.” The Israel section of WILPF is a member of the NIF-sponsored umbrella group Women's Coalition for Peace. It has condemned Israel's Cast Lead operation and the Gaza flotilla raid, while stopping short of openly praising Hamas. However, a perusal of statements by other WILPF committees and sections shows them lavishing compliments on the genocidal terror group and attacking Israel in an especially crude way.

Hamas 'good at keeping the peace'
In its 2010 “Statement on Palestine,” WILPF's Middle East Committee blames Cast Lead and the IDF closure of Gaza for terrible health problems: “Because of the war and the siege, Gaza has suffered health epidemics, including greatly increased birth defects and leukaemia,” it says. There is no reference to a study or any other source that backs up these claims.

In unabashed advocacy for Hamas, the report further states that “the U.S. unjustly calls Hamas 'terrorist' and thus requires the Palestinian Authority Police to arrest or otherwise persecute Hamas affiliates... Hamas is being badly discriminated against by the U.S. and Israel because of its religious beliefs.”
Just Walk Away, Renee

(You made some excellent points, though)

Award-winning British filmmaker Mike Leigh has cancelled a trip to Israel, in which he was to lead workshops with film students, to protest against Israeli policy.
The 67-year-old director of acclaimed films such as Life is Sweet, Topsy Turvy, Secrets & Lies, Vera Drake and most recently, Another Year, was to arrive Nov. 20 for a one-week stint at the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem.
He was also supposed to give a lecture to Palestinian moviemakers at the Jenin Cinema.
According to the newspaper Haaretz, Leigh, who is Jewish, wrote a letter to the school saying he opposed Israel's policies on Gaza and calling the loyalty oath requirement the "last straw." The requirement, which the Israeli cabinet approved last week, obligates non-Jewish immigrants to pledge loyalty to a "Jewish and democratic" state.
Leigh last visited Israel in 1990 and said he has stayed away in protest. In his letter, he said he considered withdrawing last spring from the November visit after an Israeli raid on a flotilla of Gaza-bound ships resulted in nine deaths. Leigh said he reconsidered the visit once again when the Israeli government said it would resume allowing new building in the West Bank.
But the loyalty oath legislation was the last straw, Leigh said. He added that he would not visit would Israel again until there was a "just solution" to the Palestinian issue.
He also apologized to the students and staff of the film school.
The school's director, Renee Schorr, wrote back to Leigh:
"The students, teachers, artists, and various professionals who eagerly await your arrival are not the elected Israeli government nor are they responsible for its policy. The nexus that you create by your de facto boycott between artistic and cultural bodies of work and the policy of the government and the army is a disturbing and unfortunate generalization."
Schorr also indicated there was an agreement the director could hold a news conference when he arrived in Israel to express his objections to government policy.
"It would have granted you a real opportunity to reach many ears and minds and to directly appeal to public opinion and public consciousness . … It would have allowed you to touch the future and try to change reality. Instead, you chose to remain distant."

Essential goods are being let into Gaza

Gaza Strip Civilian and Humanitarian Aid Monthly Report – September, 17 Oct 2010
The Israeli Government, together with the IDF, coordinates the delivery of a variety of humanitarian aid and development assistance to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip. This report details the humanitarian measures taken during the month of September 2010, as well as general transfers of goods and services to the Strip. 3,427 truckloads of food, fuel, and other materials entered the Gaza Strip last month. Due to the September holidays, there was a 33% reduction in the volume of truckloads for the month of September, however, there was a 46% in the volume of heavy diesel fuel delivered to Gaza’s power plant. Various ongoing projects are being coordinated by the Israeli government, the Palestinian Authority, and international aid organization, including the completion of 151 UNRWA housing units this month. In addition, 46 truckloads of cement, iron and other building materials have been transferred for the purpose of the construction of a water treatment plant in northern Gaza. After an Israeli Cabinet decision in June 2010, the capacity of the Kerem Shalom Crossing was nearly doubled so that 250 truckloads could enter the Gaza Strip on a daily basis.
