Hotel suites at the Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort have much in common with an average flat in Britain; namely, square footage.

Along with a four-poster bed, there’s a walk-in wardrobe, lounge, spacious balcony and bathroom with separate shower room.

Guests who opt to leave their rooms won’t be disappointed. The hotel is part of the wider Domaine de Bel Ombre, a vast resort on the estate of the 19th-century Irish colonialist Charles Telfair.

It has every amenity, from an 18-hole golf course to the Seven Colours Spa, which has a wide array of treatments for lovebirds.

The “C” Beach Club is an edgy party spot with a well-stocked bar and actual beds for sun-worshippers to toast on.

Two hotels – the Telfair and the Awali – are set along the breathtaking coastline of Mauritius’s less developed south coast.

The Telfair, with its serene walkways and foliage, is perhaps the more romantic (and pricier) option, although the Awali has a lively feel. The Telfair complex has two pools, one heated for off-season holidaymakers, and a beachside café serving you food with your feet in the sand while you rest.

The Domaine is set up for families, with two kids clubs, including one for teenagers. Families, or larger groups, would feel comfortable in the stunning Heritage villas, which are slightly inland but come with designated golf carts to transport guests to the resort’s other hubs.

Each villa — two or four bed — offers every luxury imaginable; pool and gardens, ensuite rooms and a butler to arrange for the kitchen to be stocked or for meals to be cooked on site. Not that guests need worry about eating in; the resort has 11 restaurants, including Asian fusion dining at Gin’ja or traditional Mauritian cuisine in Le Château de Bel Ombre. For a luxury holiday paradise where you don’t have to lift a finger, look no further.
