Hyams the hero for Blizzard Storm

JC MSFL DIVISION TWO
SPEC FC 2 BLIZZARD STORM 4

A hat-trick from GARY HYAMS saw Blizzard Storm stunned third place finishers SPEC FC in a six-goal thriller at Rowley Lane.

Dan Simons maintained his excellent run of form with his fourth goal in two games to seal the win.

SPEC FC's goals came through James Segal and Marc Hecht.

Blizzard boss Simon Linden told JC Sport: "I'm delighted to get nine points from our final three games. Everyone worked their socks off and to beat a team that was a inch from promotion shows you how good we can be.

"I look forward to a much better 2013/14 with a few good signings and the club being much more competitive."

SPEC's James Lesner told JC Sport: "Blizzard ran out deserved winners in a game where both teams had relatively little to play for.

"They played some great passing football that left us wondering how they didn't finish higher in the league.

"James Segal scored a screamer, but ultimately it wasn't enough on the night.

"We've finished the season in third place, having not lost against the top two teams, and will definitely come back stronger next season."

Gold helps Lions B finish on a high

JC MSFL DIVISION ONE
NORTH WEST NEASDEN B 1 LONDON MACCABI LIONS B 5

JAMES GOLD was the hat-trick hero as Lions B climbed to the top of the table with a five-star win over Neasden A.

A double from Jonny Cutter sealed the victory as Jamie Kyte’s men laid down the gauntlet to Camden Park who require a point in the final match of the season against Temple Fortune on Sunday.

Alex Lewis grabbed a consolation for Neasden.

Lions boss Jamie Kyte told JC Sport: "What a fantastic way to end the season and what a season it's been. We've had our ups and downs, but in the end we've been consistent, mainly because we have one of the most solid defences in the MSFL.

"It's great that we've got the runners-up spot and if Temple Fortune beat Camden this weekend we could even win the league.

"Camden have been great this season, when you look at their fixture list and you see how many cup games they had and to think they're sitting top now is a great credit to the management and depth in squad."

After the game, hat trick hero and MOM James Gold commented: "It's been an absolute privilege playing with this team. I've never enjoyed my football as much as this season.

"It's fantastic that we've got the chance to get promoted and next year our squad will be even stronger. To all footballers of the Jewish faith, if you're looking for a team that's got spirit, fight and on top of that, a fantastic ground, I urge you to come to our pre season training to see if you want to join a Premiership club."

Kyte added: "It's going to be emotional to say goodbye to Jonny Cutter who's been magical this season. He's off to NYC and we wish him all the best."

Outgoing NWN boss Dan Hodes told JC Sport: "The performance was indicative of our season. We showed glimpses of promise and some good moments, but struggled overall.

"This season hasn't been easy, but the team can hold its head high in its attitude and endeavour and we regrouped around each other after many left the club early on.

"I'd like to thank all the team for representing the club in the best fashion possible and fighting hard to avoid relegation."

London protest planned against Israel hosting Uefa Under-21s

Anti-Israel protesters are planning a demonstration in central London on Friday in the latest bid to prevent Israel from hosting the European Under-21 football championship next month.

Red Card Israeli Racism has called for boycott supporters to protest outside the Grosvenor House Hotel, where European football’s governing body, Uefa, is holding its annual conference.

They want Uefa to strip Israel of the tournament, which kicks off on June 5. The campaign is supported by figures such as film director Ken Loach, MP Jeremy Corbyn and comedian Alexei Sayle.

The protesters are also demanding that Uefa president Michel Platini meets Mahmoud Sarsak, a Palestinian footballer who was released in 2012 after three years in an Israeli prison.

Uefa has consistently rejected calls to relocate the tournament.

In a show of support for Uefa, StandWithUs UK, the Zionist Federation and the Fair Play Campaign Group are asking England fans to write to Under-21 players to wish them luck, and express the hope “that they enjoy their experience of Israel, without reference to anything political or the attempted boycotts of this tournament”.

Dan Simons maintained his excellent run of form with his fourth goal in two games to seal the win.

TEMPLE FORTUNE A vs CAMDEN PARK
Camden Park and Temple Fortune A are preparing for the league’s final match of the season, with the Camden boys knowing that a point will be enough to see them crowned champions of Division One.

Camden have had an excellent campaign overall, but they need one final push to ensure they pip Lions B to top spot, with Jamie Kyte’s men going above Glenthorne United A following the 5-1 midweek thumping of Neasden.

Josh Marks’ men have only played one of their last six matches, drawing 2-2 against Harmen, with the other five being defaulted with their opponents struggling for numbers.

“We’re extremely pleased with the progress we’ve made over the past two years and are excited at the prospect of playing in the top division next season,” Marks told JC Sport.

“We missed out on the Division Two title last season on goal difference I think and, as it stands, we would again be finishing second best on goal difference again.

“A point on Sunday, however, would win us the league which would be an added to bonus to what has been a great season.

“Our hopes this season were just to gain promotion. Reaching two cup semi-finals was an added bonus, but losing both was horrible. The boys deserve a bit of a celebration so hopefully we can go and do the job on Sunday. Everyone’s fit and looking forward to playing after a few weeks off.

“The last game against Temple Fortune was a heated affair, but I think this week will be just about the football.”

Camden won that match 2-0, with goals from Rob Hershkorn and Richard Silver. Fortune have been pretty inconsistent since then, but they can be dangerous customers on their day, and Shai Davidi will be looking to show Camden why he was recently named Fortune’s Player of the Season.

It’s worth remembering that Fortune have taken four points off long-time leaders Shirley Park this season, so Camden can take nothing for granted in a game I’m predicting goals in.

FIVE-STAR LIONS B GO TOP
LONDON MACCABI LIONS B 5 NORTH WEST NEASDEN A 2
JAMES GOLD was the hat-trick hero as Lions B climbed to the top of the table with a five-star win over Neasden A.
Outgoing NWN boss Dan Hodes told JC Sport: "The performance was indicative of our season. We showed glimpses of promise and some good moments, but struggled overall.

There were tears of joy and sadness shed on Matchday 36 of the season. Here we salute the heroes who grabbed the headlines.

1. Josh COHEN (Los Blancos) - "consistent heroics in goal but also ending the final game with a goal and assist. Not many keepers can rack up those stats"

2. Russell BRILL (Chigwell Athletic) - star man in the win that ended Glenthorne's title hopes

3. Adam OSPER (Southgate Harmen) - man-of-the-match against Faithfold B, Mr Reliable had one of his best games in a black and white shirt. He even managed a nut meg, pure class

4. Danny NEWMAN (Jerusalem) - a rock that stopped England FC getting their hands on the double

5. Dave PRESTON (Jerusalem) - his partnership alongside Danny Newman was like Hansen and Lawro

6. Alex BULL (Southgate Harmen) - put in a real shift and is a real favourite of outgoing manager Dan Uzan

7. Ben MURRELL (Southgate Harmen) - "an incredible performance and a really special hat-trick" against Faithfold

8. Gav COHEN (Jerusalem) - an energetic performance in the Olim Cup final where controlled the midfield against league champions England FC

9. Josh CAPLIN (Los Blancos) - "controlled the central midfield area and picked the perfect passes to start another LB attack" against Norstar B

10. Dean BEN YOSEF (Chigwell Athletic) - finished the season in top form and manager Richard Slater must surely give him a contract extension now ...

Cup success for Jerusalem

OLIM LEAGUE CUP FINAL
JERUSALEM 5 ENGLAND FC 2

Two goals from Moishe Lewis helped Jerusalem crush England FC’s double hopes as they won a compelling Olim Cup final 5-2.

England went into the game as favourites having recently clinched the league title, but with only 12 men available, they were missing some key players including Tal Stern, Omer Peleg, Jacob Kalms, and keeper Ariel Solomon. Roy Zenou started between the sticks, and both Lewis Kaye and Daniel Scott are in the squad despite lacking match fitness.

Jerusalem went into the game with a full-strength squad other than centre half Natan Weisenberg who was replaced by the veteran Danny Newman. Eli Warner was preferred to start as lone striker ahead of Lewis Kaye.

Motti Colman had the first chance of the game inside three minutes but his speculative lob forced a smart save
from Fran Salgado in the Jerusalem goal.

The pace of Adam Jaffe kept the Jerusalem defence on their toes, but the stood firm before going in front after 13 minutes. England keeper Roy Zenou was at fault, fumbling a seemingly harmless shot into the path of Eli
Warner and the former North West Neasden marksman made no mistake from close range.

The match became niggly, with both teams putting in some strong challenges as the Jerusalem backline proved hard for England to break down.

Jerusalem made an early change midway through the half, with the combative midfielder Jason Lurie thrown into the action at the expense of Rafi Wreschner.

Warner was causing all sorts of problems to the England defence, linking up well with Avi Korman. Akiva Zniemer almost doubled the lead only to be denied by the woodwork with Zenou beaten.

With Jerusalem’s Gav Cohen and Avi Korman dominating the midfield exchanges, England were relieved to hear the half time whistle trailing by a single goal.

England rejigged things at the start of the second half, with Zenou moving outfield and Terry Newman taking the gloves. He was soon called into action, saving well from Amit Dinowitz and Lolu Hibbert in quick succession.
Jerusalem doubled the lead on 56 minutes when Zneimer evaded the offside trap to fire a low shot past Newman.

England then made their third change in goal when Newman returned outfield, with former FC Heath striker Lewis Kaye going between the posts.

England enjoyed a good spell, with Chad Waldman missing a gilt-edged opportunity before Kaye was called into action to deny the dangerous Zneimer.

Livewire Jaffe then hauled England back into the game, drilling the ball under Jerusalem keeper Fran Salgado. It wasn’t the best of strikes but it gives England the lifeline they needed.

The game was turned on its head a minute later as England drew level. Nicky Plotnek delivered a peach of a cross that was fumbled by Salgado, allowing Tomer Saban an easy tap-in from five yards.

England had barely finished celebrating their equaliser but parity was restored just 30 seconds later as Dinowitz placed a terrific curler past Kaye from the edge of the area.

The England keeper breathed a sigh of relief minutes later as he was shown a yellow card after a wild challenge on Daniel Cohen outside of the area.

The introduction of Cohen caused all sorts of problems to the England defence. It appeared England only had one answer to his rampaging runs, with Josh Hantman the next to clatter into him.

Jerusalem moved into a 4-2 lead as Lewis is rewarded for his hard work as he turned past Yoni Sidi inside the England box and slotted the ball in.

The drama increased as Hantman was shown a second yellow card following a challenge on Jason Lurie, that forced him off, but the referee forgot to pull out his red card.

Lewis ended England’s hopes of a comeback two minutes from time with another composed finish past Kaye to wrap up a 5-2 victory.

David Preston said: "To win some silverware for the second consecutive year is a real achievement.

"The team has been made to work hard all season and this trophy is a fitting reward for their efforts."

England player-manager Yoni Sidi commented:"“Well played Jerusalem, and especially Danny Newman and Dave
Preston who were deserved winners. They soaked up our pressure well and played a good game-plan to counter-attack us.

"Kosky and Newman were like rocks at the back and I think the crowd saw the two best teams in the league tonight go toe to toe and it was a great game.

"We were missing some key players and that was disappointing, but my lads have given it everything like they have done all season."

"We're happy we won the league and will need to come back stronger next year if we want to win the cup."
