GB stars will adopt ambitious tactics, says Black

Adam Black insists Team Maccabi GB's table tennis squad will go on the attack at this summer's European Maccabi Games.

Maccabi GB this week unveiled a high-profile list of players who will go on the medal hunt in Berlin. The side will consist of Juniors, Open and Masters and has a healthy balance of big match experience and up-and-coming table tennis talent.

Marom at his majestic best, while Mencer makes a big impression

Top seed Rafi Marom won the Maccabi GB Men's Open title at the London Academy in Edgware.

Marom was the outstanding performer in a field of 32 players. He was pushed all the way in his semi-final victory over Dov Katz before overcoming Jeremy Banks 3-0 in the final.

Jack Josephs edged home 11-9 in the deciding game of the Junior Boys Singles final against Matthew Gold.

Competing in the largest event of the day at the MGB Table Tennis Championships, sponsored by Teacher Stern Solicitors, Marom was the outstanding performer in a field of 32 players.

Kaye clinches Cadet title

Sammy Kaye won the Cadet title at the Wembley & Harrow (W&H) Closed Championships.

Kaye overcame Judah Jackson 3-2 in a final tussle featuring two of Maccabi GB’s most promising young players.

Sammy and younger brother, Joe, also reached the final of the Junior Doubles competition where they were edged out 3-2 to another boy’s pairing from Lowlands TTC.

New boys sparkle at NSTTL

Three out of four events at Sunday’s National Shul Table Tennis League (NSTTL) Championships saw new entrants defeat all before them to take the crown.

New boys Wembley Sephardi registered a victory in their debut appearance in the Junior event, while Norrice Lea 2nd took the Junior Consolation title in their maiden outing at the event.

Stokes cashes in on televised event

Ashley Stokes pocketed $1,500 after reaching the last 32 of the World Championship of Ping Pong.

In a competition organised by Barry Hearn’s Matchroom Sport promotions - where players used traditional sandpaper rackets - Stokes, 24, reached the main tournament after finishing in the top four of the qualifying stages.
