Team GB eye rugby gold

Rugby boss Jon Tyler has set his sights on leading Team GB to a golden summer at the 2013 Maccabiah Games.

Team GB are planning to send open teams for both the 15-a-side and rugby sevens competition as well as under-16 and under-19 squads.

Tyler is expecting over 70 players to make the trip to Israel and is looking to run the rule over the squads at the next training session on June 24.

Rugby joy for Israel

The Israel national rugby team has been promoted into Division 2B of the European Nations Cup.

A 15-0 victory against Denmark in front of 1,500 spectators at Wingate Stadium saw them finish the job in style.

First-half tries from prop Matan Brosh and Adrian Reinstein put Israel in command. Reinstein sealed the win with a brilliant solo effort in the second half.

Team GB stars shine

Maccabiah stars Aaron Radley of Rosslyn Park RFC and Sam Katz from Loughborough University RFC helped the Ramblin Jesters, an Invitational Rugby Sevens Team, reach the semi-finals of the Amsterdam Sevens Tournament.

Played in front of 8,000 spectators, the Londoners featured in 48-team, competition, with the Jesters side made up of IRB internationals from Fiji, Wales and Ireland.

We have unfinished business, says Tyler

Jon Tyler is looking forward to a very strong attendance at the training and trials session at a Rugby Club in South West London.

Tyler, who is the Chair of the Team GB Rugby Squad for the Maccabiah Games in Israel 2013, believes that the squad has some unfinished business. He was also Chair of the squad in 2009 when they won silver following a narrow defeat against Australia in the final.

Scott Spurling got his England Under 20 career off to a winning start in the 59-3 victory over Scotland in the under-20 Six Nations.

The Saracens hooker came off the bench to play the last 12 minues for last season's grand slam winners at Firhill in Glasgow.

Brits boost Israel at the Euros

Scrum half Eitan Humphreys helped Israel to its second Nations Cup success in the space of a week after the team ran in four tries to defeat Norway 22-11.

Humphreys, who retained his place in the side that had beaten Austria in Vienna, lined up alongside 2009 Maccabiah GB star Matt Frankfurt, who regained his starting place in the front row.

Spurling in seven heaven

Scott Spurling completed a gruelling schedule by helping the England Sevens team to victory at the Under 19 Commonwealth Games in the Isle of Man.

Playing at hooker, Spurling, 18, helped England maintain a 100 per cent record at the eight-team event where they beat South Africa 41-20 in the final at the Bowl Stadium.
