Let's do it in style, says Maccabiah football manager

David Pollock is targeting a historic treble after he was named manager of the Team GB Open football squad for next year’s Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Pollock, 52, was joint-manager of the all-conquering squad who won gold at last summer’s European Maccabi Games in Vienna and he was also part of the successful 45-plus Masters team that won the 2009 Maccabiah title.

Maccabi Haifa have reached the playoff round of the Champions League after edging past Slovenian champions Maribor 3-2 on aggregate on Wednesday night.

Brad's silver lining

A 3-1 victory over Germany saw them take silver and finish as the top European side in a three-team event.

How little Mark and his pals aim to be a big hit in Denver

Maccabi GB's 44-srtrong squad is completing preparations ahead of a trip to Denver for the JCC Maccabi Games.

The delegation features 36 athletes and eight managers. There are high hopes for golfer Marc Brenner, 14, who is currently number two for his age in the county. Brenner is also the youngest junior vice-captain at Abridge Golf & Country Club. The Essex county squad member will become junior captain in October. The squad departs on July 29.

The delegation features 36 athletes and eight managers including Neil Taylor, the Manchester based athletics manager who was born in Belfast.

Preparations remain on track for the defence of the European Maccabi Football Trophy after another comfortable victory, this time at the hands of Premiership opposition in the shape of London Maccabi Lions B at Rowley Lane.

Man-of-the-Match Nicky Woolf went one better than his four goals on Sunday with a five goal salvo, perfectly exploiting Lions high back-line in a 9-0 success.

Woolf's first goal came after two minutes after Joel Lassman won the ball out wide and played the in-form striker through to hit home from the tightest of angles.

New chairman for Team GB

The GB Maccabiah and European Organising Committee have appointment of Darryl Lee as chairman and Adam Solomons as vice-chairman of both the European and Maccabiah Games GB football teams.

In addition Maccabi GB announced that the pair will hold the same positions for the GB football teams at the Pan American and Australia Games.

Lee and Solomons will be responsible for overseeing the management and coaching of teams for the selected international Maccabi competitions concluding with the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel in 2013.
