Hartsbourne win Glancy Cup

Hartsbourne retained the Glancy Cup for the third consecutive year after overhauling Abridge's overnight lead on day two at Dunham Forest Golf & Country Club in Altrincham.

The competition is the most important of the year's events arranged by the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies. This year's line-up featured 18 teams of eight players.

Second meet for Jewish Golf

The Association of Jewish Golf & Societies held the second meeting of its current calendar at Moor Allerton when the Northern Junior bowl featured six teams representing all the clubs and societies affiliated to the Association other than the London Clubs and Sussex Jewish Golf Society

The first element of the competition was played on Saturday with the Shirley pairing of Joe Norton and Ellie Berwick winning the four-ball better ball format with a score of 62

Hartsbourne win Met golf tournament

Hartsbourne claimed the first piece of silverware of the Jewish golf season after winning the Metropolitan Golf Tournament.

Organised under the auspices of the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs & Societies, this year's tournament was held at Coombe Hill Golf Club.

Teams featuring eight men and four women battled it out from affiliated clubs in London, with Abridge, Dyrham Park, Coombe Hill, Hartsbourne and Potters Bar lining up alongside the Sussex Jewish Golf Society.

Hartsbourne's victory was confirmed after they tied with Coombe Hill.

Ladies success at golf tournament

Coombe Hill and Hartsbourne were this week toasting success after taking the top team titles at the 14th Ladies National Tournament at Hartsbourne Country Club.

Coombe Hill won the Team Gross Trophy while the host club claimed the Team Nett.

One hundred and 17 lady golfers from 13 teams competed at a competition that has gone from strength to strength, and is the only tournament where ladies from Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies all over the UK and Ireland have a chance to compete with each other.

Jewish ladies golf tournament set for Hartsbourne

Thirteen clubs will battle it out for the title of top team at the Ladies National Tournament at Hartsbourne on May 27.

The female equivalent of the Glancy, the competition will feature women golfers from all the Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies throughout the UK and
Ireland.

Surrey-based Coombe Hill will defend the Dyrham Park Trophy for the best Team Gross score while Dublin's Edmondstown stake their Shirley Trophy, for the best Team Nett on the line.

Team GB name 35-man squad for JCC Games

Following a successful trip to San Francisco last year, Maccabi GB has selected a 35-man squad that will travel to Denver for the 2010 JCC Maccabi Games in August.

Team GB has participated in the event for 16 consecutive years with more than 1,000 young people taking part in the largest event for Jewish teen athletes in the world.

Kuber is a genuine driving force

Mark Kuber beat Walker Cup star Luke Goddard to win the Johnson Better Ball competition.

Plagued by a back injury for the past few months, Kuber has been forced to miss a large chunk of the season but he saved his best form to beat amateur champion Goddard, who recently turned professional.

The victory capped a number of successes for the youngster who won the Northwood Under 21 Open as well as having a hole-in-one at the Hendon Golf Club Pro-Am, an achievement rewarded with a new set of clubs.

Birmingham ladies take golfing crown

Davina Greenspan, Evelyn Berman, Gillian Morris and Faga Speker formed the winning team at the Society of Jewish Lady Golf Captains’ annual competition at Shirley Golf Club in Birmingham.

A winning total of 76 points held off the challenge of Hilary Abramson, Oriol Phillips, Helen Land and Janet Cohen, who finished runners-up following a countback on the back nine.

Following the action, the SJLGC held their AGM before inaugurating Mrs Ruth Langdorf, the former lady Captain of Abridge, as Captain of Captains for the 2009-10 season.

Manchester golf team clubs together

Whitefield won the Coombe Hill Trophy for the best team aggregate gross at the Seniors Trophy, held at Edmonstown Golf Club in Dublin.

Hosted by the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies, the tournament featured teams of six for players aged 55 and over.

The Manchester club’s victory in the major prize saw them pip Moor Allerton to the post, and forced them to settle for the Potters Bar Trophy. Dyrham Park won The North East Trophy for the best team aggregate net.

Lee plays them off the Park

Lee Park and Potters Bar added silverware to their trophy cabinets following two major competitions staged by the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs & Societies.

Liverpool-based Park won the main prize in the Provincial Trophy competition. The host club lifted the Gerry Tankel trophy for the best four out of six aggregate net scores. They finished on 287 with runners-up Bonnyton chasing them home with 290.
