Lion cubs win derby

November 13, 2008

Oliver Craig (2), Efraim Carlebach and Joe Zender earned London Maccabi Lions Under 18s a 4-3 win over London Road.

Sam Lewis and Matthew Perlman gave LML White a 2-1 win over Edmonton Rangers in the Watford Friendly League Under 15 Division. Daniel Remo and Ben Simpson were on target as Brady Maccabi Under 11s drew 2-2 against Hemel Athletic in the Watford Friendly League.

HMH beat Alyth Belsize 4-1 in the AJY Under 14 Division thanks to goals from Zachary Collins (2), Clarke Norton and Noah Lachs.

Rubin inspires Leeds

Four goals from Josh Rubin eased Leeds JNF J-Uni six points clear at the top of the Joan Collins Premier Division following a 5-2 success over Crumpsall. Jonathan Green completed the rout as they won their seventh consecutive match. Matt Jacobs bagged a brace for Crumpsall.

Manchester Maccabi 4th overcame South Manchester Maccabi 2nd by the same scoreline with strikes from David Baynard (2), Max Lee and Simon Kaye.

Adam Schwinger (2), Alex Woolf and Jamie King scored as Sporting JLGB beat Westdene Reserves 4-0.

Vets take bronze

Maccabi GB took bronze at the fourth Maccabi Masters competition in Israel after beating Maccabi Moscow 4-0 in the third-place playoff.

Braces from GB top-scorer Marc Morris and Mark Kingston wrapped up a convincing victory.

GB started the competition with a hard-fought win over Maccabi Buenos Aires. Tony Platman and Morris helped them come from behind to complete a 2-1 win. This was followed by a 2-2 draw against the Moscow Government team when they battled back with goals from Kingston and Morris.

Brady boost

Two goals from Laurence Beck helped Brady Maccabi end North London Raiders' unbeaten record as they moved to within three points of the Division One leaders.

Scott Ansher and Marc Herman finished the job, prompting manager Danny Collins to proclaim: "We're back and we're not giving up our title without a fight."

Extra special Neasden are made to sweat

Extra time strikes from Lee Cash and Andy Glynne kept alive North West Neasden A's quadruple hopes as they beat Kenningwell United 4-2 in round two of the London Challenge Cup. Ricky Kennet had bagged a brace in normal time.

Camden Park climbed into the top three after beating Division One leaders South Manx A 4-2 in the JC MSFL. Michael Goldberg (2), Russell Greenfield and Rick Harris were their scorers. Adam Littess and Darren Harris replied.

Giants eye up Asulin

Barcelona starlet Guy Asulin, 17, is being lined up for a move to England in January.

Reports from Spain suggest that the player's agent, Pini Zahavi, has made a strategic decision that playing in the Premier League is the best way for the Israeli midfielder to develop his talents.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs have been linked with the player who became the first-ever 16-year-old to represent Israel earlier this year.

Stuttering Sahar ready to kickstart his career

Israel striker Ben Sahar has admitted for the first time that he is ready to make a fresh start with a new club in the Premier League after his loan period ends with Portsmouth in January.

Sahar, 19, has experienced a stop-start career since signing for Chelsea from Hapoel Tel Aviv in May, 2006. He made three appearances for Chelsea before being loaned out to QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and most recently Portsmouth, where he has yet to feature for the first team.

Lions edge past Thornes

Played in blustery conditions at Rowley Lane, London Maccabi Lions Masters faced the familiar opposition of Glenthorne Masters in the first round of the LFA Veterans Cup.

Both teams fielded stronger sides to that which contested last weeks league game (which the Lions won convincingly 5 -2) and it was the home side that started the better, controlling the earlier stages of the game with Warren Leader and Craig Henry out muscling Glenthrone's Sid Shaw and Paul Van Gelder with Ed Zneimer and Adam Lee also getting the better of their opposing players.

Bs sting the As in FC Team derby

FC Team B caused one of the shocks of the day as they ended their A team's 100 perfect record in a five-goal thriller.

The B team came into this game on a three-game winning streak but that was nothing compared to the A teams highly impressive 100 per cent start in their first eight league games of the season.

However, the As will be the first to admit that the closest they had come to losing in those eight games was the first meeting with the B team where they held on to their one goal lead under immense pressure for the final 30 minutes.

London Lions 4 Standon & Puckeridge 2

London Lions turned on the style once again as they beat 4th placed Standon & Puckeridge 4-2 at Rowley Lane.

When the Lions are good they are very good and if they can just fine tune their possession and passing of the ball to a far more consistent level then they could be exceptional.

The first 25 minutes was a little disjointed as both teams looked to get a foot hold on the game. It was the visitors that drew first blood with an Adam Myeroff own goal giving them the lead.
