Holdsworth to head up new Primary League

Plans to secure the future of Jewish youth football were unveiled this week with former Bolton striker Dean Holdsworth spearheading the restructured Maccabi (Southern) Primary Football League next season.

Organisers of the AJY recently announced their decision to stand down but some players from the league will join a revamped Maccabi Primary who, working alongside Maccabi GB and the UJIA, will facilitate players aged seven to 17 in a user-friendly, football for all young people in the community initiative.

Neasden frustrated by red-hot Reggel

North West Neasden B and North London Raiders A claimed a win apiece in a JC MSFL Division One double-header.

Neasden won the opener 3-0 thanks to goals from Kane Swerner (2) and Rob Lerner.

They forged ahead in the second match courtesy of a long-range strike from Ryan Sher. Recent signing Richie Reggel turned the game on its head with a hat-trick, including his first goal since his move from Bafana Bafana, with Andrew Benson adding the other in a 4-2 win. Sher completed the scoring.

Special Ks dent Bridge

Two goals from Lioz Ahitove plus one from Steven Field saw Kenton Maccabi inflict a second league defeat on table-topping Redbridge Jewish Care in the AJY League Under 17 Division.

Harrison Grant (3), Matthew Niman (2), Saul Green (2), Daniel Wright and Jimmy Castle were on target as second-placed RJC thumped Stonegrove Park 9-2 in the Under 14 Division. Adam Gold and Yoni Chitiyat struck consolations for Stonegrove.

Three goals from Zac Rose earned Division 12 leaders Alyth Belsize Yellow a 4-3 win over title rivals HMH Purple.

North West Neasden A eased into the quarter-finals of the Peter Morrison Trophy after thumping Premier Division rivals Faithfold A 4-0. Lee Bibring (2), Ben Ellis and TJ Keterman completed the rout.

No pain, no gain for Yossi

Israel captain Yossi Benayoun may be given a pain-killing injection to get him through tomorrow night’s 2010 World Cup qualifier against Group Two leaders Greece.

The Liverpool star remains a major doubt going into the double-header against the 2004 European Championship winners with a hamstring injury that kept him out of the recent games against Real Madrid, Manchester United and Aston Villa.

The attacking-midfielder has not played since scoring in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Sunderland on March 4.

Goals from James Abrams and Bobby Abrams boosted Haroldeans’ chances of finishing runners-up of the Joan Collins Premier Division after beating Oakhill Lions 2-0.

Zacky Pfefer and Uri Stienberg were on the mark as Crumpsall beat Sporting JLGB 2-1. Josh Taylor replied.

A brace from Daniel Seligman helped Manchester Maccabi 4th beat Republic of Mancunia 2-1.

A hat-trick from Moishe Hasid eased Westdene Reserves to a 5-1 win over Roy’s Rovers. Rafi Hasid and Daniel Rose completed the rout. Leon Huller netted Rovers’ consolation.

UJS Norstar 3 Glenthorne United B 1

A depleted Norstar team kept their promotion bid on track with a deserved victory over Glenthorne B.

With only two recognised defenders in the squad due to a wedding in Manchester which saw Jonny Bunt, Matt Plaskow, Neil Daniels and Josh Kleiman, the team was down to the bare bones, without central midfielders Adam Sandzer and Zac Newman. They also went into this game without Jeremy Elster off sunning himself in Dublin.

Job done as FC Team B seal promotion

Zig Zag 2 FC Team B 3

Not for the first time this season, FC Team B came from behind to seal a famous victory for the club as they gained promotion from Division 3 in a thrilling encounter with Zig Zag in Harrow Weald.

On another bright morning, FC Team B came charging out of the blocks and almost scored in the first minute from a Dave Silver effort that went just over the bar.

Southgate Harmen A 1 NW Neasden C 4

Stephen Bloom hit his fifth hat-trick of the season and his second in consecutive weeks to help North West Neasden C to a stunning victory over Division Two leaders Southgate Harmen A.

Played at the home of Harmen, Ashmole School, where the hosts were previously unbeaten this season and tipped by many to continue that trend today, Neasden simply outplayed them in every aspect of the game to see them take four points from them from the season, scoring eight goals in the process.
