Could Roni be the new rocket?

Wigan are reportedly weighing up a move for Finland striker Roni Porokara.

The Orebro SK player has also attracted interest from a number of clubs in Germany as well as Maccabi Haifa.

Porokara, 26, would cost around £500,000 and is eager to play in the Premier League. He scored the winner in Finland's victory over Belgium last week.

Dekel Keinan will be available for Blackpool's trip to Arsenal tomorrow after finally signing a two-year deal. As reported, Keinan's work permit was approved last month but due to Ministry of Employment bureaucracy he only received it on Monday.

Ben Winston leaves Wingate & Finchley

Ben Winston has stepped down as assistant-manager of Wingate & Finchley.

Recently appointed as manager to Team England ahead of next year's European Maccabi Games in Vienna, Winston told the players after their pre-season victory over Barnet.

Winston said: "Although I think this is the year we will get promotion, it is too difficult for me to commit so much time. I though it was best to take a break rather than be half-hearted in my approach."

Shechter insists Hapoel kippah was not provocation

Hapoel Tel Aviv striker Itay Shechter insists that his unique celebration wearing a kippah after scoring the Israeli team's third goal in the 3-2 victory over Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League play-off was not a provocation.

Shechter said that putting on the red kippa with Hapoel's emblem was a premeditated act.

Hapoel nearer Champions League dream

Three precious away goals put Hapoel Tel Aviv within touching distance of the group phase of the Champions League after they beat Red Bull Salzburg 3-2 on a plastic pitch in Austria on Wednesday night.

The knockout round first leg got off to a flying start for the Israeli champions when keeper Vincent Enyeama put them ahead from the penalty spot after three minute following a foul on the impressive Etey Shechter.

The hosts levelled after 28 minutes via Pokravic but Ben Sahar, the former Chelsea striker, restored Hapoel's advantage with a bullet header a minute before half time.

Blackpool confirm Keinan signing

Dekel Keinan has been unveiled as a Blackpool player – just as the JC told you on July 12.

Keinan joined on a free transfer after parting company with Maccabi Haifa.

He has agreed a one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months.

The 25-year-old had his work permit approved last month but only received it on Monday.

Five-star Lions claim first win

A hat-trick from James Gershfield steered London Lions to their first ever victory in the South Midlands League as they thumped Cockfosters 5-1 in Division One on Tuesday night.

Having failed to win any of their first four matches, the Lions rediscovered the form that saw them crowned Herts County Senior League champions last season.

A scintillating performance was capped by goals from Ben Ellis and Aron Barnes.

The Lions finally showed what they are capable of with a near full squad as they put Cockfosters to the sword at Goffs Park.

Despite taking a two-goal lead inside the first 12 minutes, the Lions were unable to make the most of their advantage and needed a late equaliser from James Gershfield to rescue a point.

Avram Grant: 'at home' at West Ham

Avram Grant has revealed that he feels right at home in London's East End ahead of West Ham's opening Premier League game of the season.

The former Israel coach, who replaced Gianfranco Zola at Upton Park last month, begins his reign with a trip to managerless Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Hammers endured a wretched season fighting against relegation last time around but Grant is adamant the feel-good factor surrounding the club has given everyone a newfound confidence.

"Life is very good and I feel as if I have been here at Upton Park for many years," he said.

Uefa ready to home in on Hapoel

Hapoel Tel Aviv are facing home heartache after being warned that their Bloomfield Stadium is unfit to hold Champions League Group matches.

Uefa has told the Israeli side that they must play their games at the National Stadium in Ramat Gan should they succeed in defeating Red Bull Salzburg in their play-off clash.

Hapoel, who travel to Austria for the first leg next Wednesday, are set to appeal before they host the return game on August 24.

Bolton boss Coyle 'pleased with' Tamir Cohen

Tamir Cohen has been tipped to take the Premier League by storm after fighting his way back to full fitness.

The Bolton star has been in impressive form during pre-season and has warmed up for Saturday's opener against Fulham by scoring goals for fun.

Cohen was forced to undergo a mi nor operation at the start of the summer after being forced the end of the season with a niggling injury.

But the 26-year-old has already got manager Owen Coyle excited with the Bolton boss expecting great things from the Israel international.
