Lions stay in title race

London Lions maintained their Herts Senior County League Premier Division title hopes with two wins over the Bank Holiday.

Two goals from top-scorer Adam Stolerman plus one apiece from new signing Steve Summers and Danny Cole eased them past Hertford Heath 4-1.

Lee Cash scored the winner as they edged past Cuffley. Lions manager Tony Gold said: "This performance shows how far these lads have come.

"Up against a tough physical side they dug deep and produced arguably their best performance to date in terms of fight, determination and a will to win.

Israelis sign for Tel Aviv

Maccabi Tel Aviv have signed Israeli internationals Roberto Colautti and Yoav Ziv from Borussia Monchengladbach and Lokeren respectively on three year contracts.

The signings came after Maccabi slumped to a 1-0 home defeat to John Gregory's basement battlers Ahi Nazareth in Israel's Ligat Haal. Maccabi have gone seven games without a win.

Wingate look to old boy Hakim for play-off inspiration

Paul Hakim has boosted Wingate & Finchley's playoff push after joining the Ryman League Division One North outfit for the rest of the season.

The Team GB striker, who won Player of the Tournament at the Maccabiah Games last year, signed for St Albans City, Wingate and Maccabi League team Brady Maccabi, whom his father, Simon manages at the start of the season.

Perkins powers Faithfold back to the summit

Faithfold A moved two points clear at the top of the Premier Division after beating Redbridge A 4-2 with goals from Dan Perkins (2), Rocky Spitzer and Paul Savitz.

North London Raiders A moved a step closer to top flight football next season when they beat Brady Maccabi 2-1 in Division One. Goals from Matt Sheldon and Joe Tankel took them eight points clear at the top. Lee Platt had levelled from the penalty spot.

King Kennet takes Lions into cup final

A 117th minute strike from supersub Ricky Kennet put the Lions into the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup final after they won the clash of the titans at a windswept Rowley Lane.
Lions manager Eilon Kennet reluctantly threw his son into the action with 10 minutes left as he had no fit players. Kennet snr said that Ricky should not have been playing at all. "I just sent him on to stand there and cause problems but luckily he found space and hit the winner to put us into the final."

Ben Haim to miss Cup semi final

Tal Ben Haim is set for FA Cup heartbreak with injury likely to rule him out of Sunday's semi-final against Spurs at Wembley.

The Portsmouth defender spent Passover in Israel nursing a groin problem.

Ben Haim, 28, is struggling to recover from the injury which has plagued him since February, and with the possibility that he will not return to fitness this season, he might have played his last game in the Premier League.

Portsmouth's administrator Andrew Andronikou is eager to unload the Israeli international who earns £40,000 a week and is contracted to the club until August 2013.

Red Sea parts company with MSFL

The JC MSFL has lost another team after first division Red Sea folded.

Following in the footsteps of Glenthorne United A, Bafana Bafana, AC Cricklewood, North West Neasden C and South Manx B, Red Sea withdrew after five years in the league which is now down to 49 teams.

Red Sea chairman Daniel Wynne said: “We have not been able to field a team for a few weeks now and have incurred a number of fines in the last two months, effectively bankrupting the club.

“We lost a lot of players to retirement through the start of this season and failed to recruit sufficient dedicated cover.

Mancunia widen gap at top of MJSL Premier Division

Republic of Mancunia opened a six point lead at the top of the Manchester Jewish Soccer League's Joan Collins Premier Division after thumping Crumpsall 6-1.

Paul Basger (2), Yochai Zorno, Ben Blackston, Darren Loofe and Anthony Bloch completed their 10th win of the campaign against a Crumpsall side that have no wins from 13 games.

Goals from Mike Gastwirth (2), Simi Hibbert (2), Uri Steinberg (2) and Matt Jacobs earned Broughton Park a 7-1 win over Sporting JLGB. Danny Jacobs grabbed a consolation.

Israel start Euro campaign against Malta

Israel will hope for a flying start to their Euro 2012 qualifiers at home to Malta in early September.

The fixture news comes on the heels of the appointment of manager Luis Fernandez as the successor to Dror Kashtan.

The easy looking opener will be followed by a much tougher fixture in Georgia on September 7.

There will be two crucial games the following month as Israel host Croatia before travelling to Greece a few days later.

"There are no easy games in football but it is vital we win our first two games," Fernandez said. "Then we can think about Croatia and Greece."

EDRS clinch Masters League 2 title

EDRS Stonegrove clinched the Maccabi Masters Division Two title after beating Brady Maccabi B 3-2.

Gary Rose put Brady ahead inside the opening 30 seconds and they doubled the lead in controversial fashion minutes later when Marc Herman took advantage of an EDRS goal-kick, which hit an overhead wire.

However, in an act of sportsmanship which exemplifies the spirit of Masters football, Brady captain Malcolm Hershman allowed EDRS striker Phil Silver to score unchallenged from the kick-off to restore their lead to a single goal. Tony Platman (2) secured the points for EDRS.
