Israel edged out by Ivory Coast

Israel were beaten 4-3 by the Ivory Coast in an international friendly in Switzerland on Wednesday night.

The match featured an inspirational performance by new Arsenal striker Gervinho who was a key figure as the African team stormed into a 3-0 lead.

Lions mauled in Charity Shield

London Lions suffered a huge reality check a week before the season starts with a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Berkhamsted in the Herts Charity Cup.

Lions manager Tony Gold was without six regular first team players through injury, illness and holiday. In fact at one point the game was close to being forfeited as Lions only had eleven men with no subs.


Heath Banta withdraws from MSFL

With less than a month to the start of the new MSFL season, Heath Banta have withdrawn from the league – leaving it with 50 teams.

Ben Nathan, manager of the Division Three team, informed league chairman David Wolff of his decision last night.

Nathan said: "Unfortunately, we have come to the conclusion that we are not going to be able to field a team for the season.


Haifa face Genk in Euro tie

Maccabi Haifa will play Genk over two legs to earn a place in the group phase of this season's Champions League.

Having claimed a 3-2 aggregate win over Slovenian champions Maribor on Wednesday night, Haifa must now overcome a team that beat Partizan in the third qualifying round in the playoff round.


Haifa reach Champions League knockout round

A first-half strike from Idan Vered enabled Maccabi Haifa to book a place in Friday's Champions League Knockout round as they beat Slovenian champions Maribor on Wednesday night.

Leading 2-1 from the first leg in Israel, Haifa took only 10 minutes to extend their advantage when Vered found the net in the third qualifying round second leg.
