Lions U16 beat Gladstone

February 4, 2010

Jordan Marks maintained his excellent form by helping London Maccabi Lions clinch a 2-0 win over Gladstone in the Watford Friendly League Under 16 Blue Division. Max Wegoda claimed the other.

A goal from Jake Erlich was not enough to stop Lions Under 14s from going down 2-1 against Omonia.

Lions Under 10 registered 17 without reply against Cassiobury Rangers. Joshua Burns (5), Reuben Rabstein (3), Tyler Smith (3), Joseph Bellman (2), Nathan Brown (2), Sam Hamerton and Alexander Randall completed the scoring.

Jonny Cainer new head of Maccabi futsal

After years in the shadow of the 11–a-side national game, futsal is stepping out and the future is bright, says Jonny Cainer who has recently been appointed into the new role as Head of Futsal for Maccabi GB.

Darryl Lee, Maccabi GB’s Chairman of Football for the European Maccabi Games, said, “In terms of futsal, Jonny is one of our most experienced and knowledgeable players, a veteran of four Maccabiot both as a player and a coach, we have tasked him to lay down the foundations that will allow futsal to stand on its own two feet.”

Avram Grant's uncertain future at Portsmouth

Avram Grant has described the continuing crisis at Portsmouth as the most challenging of his life.

The manager this week hit out at the owners over “broken promises” as he battles to save the crisis club from relegation.

Prior to Wednesday’s Premier League match against Fulham, Grant, 54, spoke of his disappointment about the dealings in the transfer window, where key players Younes Kaboul and Asmir Begovic were sold. But the club’s need to sell was not a surprise to the Israeli.

FC Team into semis of London Cup

FC Team booked their place in the semi-finals of the London Cup after thumping West Green United 4-1.

Captain Jules Noti made the breakthrough from a Jonny Breger free-kick. With Laurence Judah and Breger pulling the strings in midfield, it came as no surprise when Team scored three more to make the last four.

Manager Mitch Young said: “I’m proud of the boys. I believe we are good enough to progress to the final, as long as we prepare .

Lions Masters out of Veterans Cup

London Maccabi Lions’ brave run in the London Masters Veterans Cup was halted at the quarter-finals stage after putting up a fine show against an Interwood Vets side including a number of ex-professionals.

Lining up against former Reading star Michael Gilkes and Andy Clarke, the ex-Barnet, Wimbledon winger, the Lions settled well into their stride against well drilled opponents.

Neasden's nine-men out of FA Cup

North West Neasden’s dreams of becoming the first Jewish team to win the Sunday FA Cup were quashed as they lost a 10-goal thriller against Sungate in the last 16.

Having lost in the LFA Sunday Challenge Cup last week, NWN let slip a 2-0 and 4-2 lead in a tie they finished with nine men.

James Gershfield, Lee Cash, Danny Daggers and an own goal accounted for the NWN goals. Jake Gottlieb and Tony Keterman were sent off. Neasden received in the region of £1,700 for their cup run.

Antisemitism row at Sunday FA Cup

A Sunday FA Cup match ended in chaos after a player was sent off for protesting that he had been racially abused.

MSFL Premier Division North West Neasden A are to be reported to the FA after players rounded on the referee for not taking action over striker Tony Keterman’s claim that he was called a “****** nosed ****”.

It came on the same day another team playing non-Jewish opposition were subjected to racial abuse during a Herts Senior League game.

Lions cement league top spot

London Lions reserves maintained their advantage at the top of the Herts Senior County League Reserve Division One with a 3-0 victory over Baldock Town.

Make no mistake, this was a real hard game of football but, once again, Lions dug deep and eventually ran out deserved winners over an impressive visiting Baldock side.
