Faithfold 5-4 North London Raiders

Faithfold player-coach James Bloom insisted Daryl Phillips is still "among the best finishers in Jewish football" after his four goals won a nine-goal thriller against North London Raiders.

Running the show in this Maccabi Masters Division One contest alongside his MSFL colleagues Zuriel Solomon and David Garson, Phillips' speed over five yards and opportunism proved too much for a Raiders team who until recently still harboured title ambitions.

Cole names JC MSFL Rep team against Turkey

Jamie Cole, manager of the JC MSFL Rep team, has named a 21-man squad for next week's London Inter-League Cup opener against the Turkish Federation League.

Ahead of next Thursday evening's match at Brimsdown Rovers FC in Enfield, Cole said: "We've never beaten this team in this competition so there's a massive incentive for players."

Daniel Stanton has been named captain. London Maccabi Lions defender Louis Basger missed out on a place as he is unavailable. Brady Maccabi striker Paul Hakim, who is the only player from outside the Premier Division is doubtful due to injury.

Israel beats Romania in friendly

Goals from Yossi Benayoun and Elyaniv Barda earned Israel a 2-0 victory over Romania in Elyaniv Barda in an international friendly on Wednesday night.

In a match featuring two sides who failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup, it was captain Benayoun who put the visitors ahead on the stroke of half time. Collecting the ball deep inside his own half, the Liverpool midfielder played a one-two before skipping between three Romanian defenders before coolly slotting into the corner of the net.

Birmingham target Itay Shecter

Birmingham City have started negotiations with Itay Shechter, according to reports.

The Hapoel Tel Aviv striker caught the eye after helping the Israeli club reach the last 32 of the Europa League.

It is believed that Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has also called former Aston Villa boss John Gregory, now the manager of Maccabi Akhi Nazareth, for a scouting report on Shechter.

Birmingham are also understood to be tracking Hapoel midfielder Gil Vermouth.

Hapoel Tel Aviv out of Europa League

Hapoel Tel Aviv bowed out of the Europa League after a goalless draw in Israel saw them ousted 3-0 on aggregate by Rubin Kazan.

The Israelis hit the woodwork twice in the Round of 32 second leg at the Bloomfield, but otherwise created few chances as Rubin advanced on the back of a convincing first leg display.

Hapoel made their intentions clear from the off Dani Bondarv’s powerful drive deflecting off Christian Noboa, only for the ball to rebound off the crossbar after two minutes.

David Dein president of England World Cup bid

World cup David Dein has been appointed International president of England's 2018 World Cup bid.

The former Arsenal vice-chairman has been brought in invigorate the project which is being rivalled by Russia, whose campaign is being bank-rolled by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

A former G14 chairman, Dein is acknowledged as one of the game's biggest power brokers. He will be given a free hand to lobby Fifa's executive committee which makes its decision on who will host the global tournament.

Ten-man Hendon defeat Catford and Bromley

A stunning late comeback from Hendon United B averted a shock in the Peter Morrison Trophy as they beat Catford & Bromley 8-4.

Joel Isaacs, Leo Brownstein, Craig Edwards and John Keller had put the Cats in a strong position. Hendon, who were missing eight regulars, lost their keeper after 15 minutes and played much of the tie with 10 men due to injuries, hit back through Gav Noe (3), Chaim Gothold (2), Amit Dinowitz, Gideon Lipman and Martin Smulovitch.

Cats boss Lester Jacob lamented: "I watched my team simply self-destruct to concede six goals in the last quarter."

Treble-chasing Neasden showed that practice makes perfect as they came from behind to deny Division One Brady Maccabi a giantkilling in a JC Cyril Anekstein Cup tie settled by a penalty shootout.

Lions Under 10 into last eight of Herts cup

London Maccabi Lions Under 10’s White secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Herts County Cup with a battling 2-1 win over Knebworth Youth. Josh Burns bagged a brace including an extra time winner.

The game was moved to Knebworth due to the waterlogged pitches at Rowley Lane – however the first half performance was as if most boys had left their skill and battling qualities at Rowley Lane with a lack of fight and poor passing contributing to the Lions going in 1-0 down at the break.

Lion cubs reach cup quarters

London Maccabi Lions Under Nine’s reached the fifth round of the County Cup after beating Stevenage Town Youth 3-1 after extra time.

Going up against a Stevenage side unbeaten in their respective league, Lions manager Lee Collins knew that this was going to be a massive test of character for his cubs.

Stevenage started extremely well pressing forward at every opportunity and they started to take control of the first half. Lions keeper Hadley Shapps needed to be in top form and he was up to the task, pushing a fine free kick past the post.
