South Manchester maintains winning formula

South Manchester Sports Club 1st made it two out of two in the Manchester Accountants League Premier Division with a 3-2 victory over Saints.

Toby Levy put Darryl Lee’s men ahead with an stunning overhead kick.

A bullet header from Toby Kaye doubled the lead before Mark Yaffe clinched the points with a third before Saints claimed two at the death.

Lions maintain South Midlands title push

London Lions continued their recent good form with another dominating performance beating Stony Stratford Town 6-1 in the South Midlands League Division One.

Ben Ellis scored his first senior hat-trick with further goals from Adam Stolerman, Josh Kennet and Aron Barnes.

Missing several regulars, the Lions were able to introduce Ross Pincus into the squad alongside Andy Glynne who was back from injury. Michael Sacks deputised for Guy Morris.

Rampant Lions pluck Herons’ feathers

A hat-trick from Sam Martin capped a polished display as London Maccabi Lions Under 11s thumped Herons’ 5-1 in the Watford Friendly League Red Division.

The Lions were quick out the blocks and had some early possession with some slick midfield mêlées.

They opened the scoring after 11 minutes when Joseph Gale picked up the ball, shimmied and fired home majestically into the top corner.

Man of the Match Jack Mattey was a master in midfield and pulled all the strings alongside Oscar Cohen, Matt Stern and Ben Fenton.

Republic humble Haroldeans

Republic of Mancunia maintained their excellent start to the JC MJSL season with a 3-1 victory over defending champions Haroldeans.

ROM went into the match with a 16-man squad ready to face the tough challenge in Liverpool which historically is a difficult fixture for all teams in the MJSL. The management and captain made their intentions clear before the Kick Off, with the match plan worked perfectly.

Manchester 1st pay the penalty

A controversial last-minute penalty denied Manchester Maccabi 1st victory in the Thameside League Division One as they were forced to share the points following a four-goal thriller against Astley.

Played in windswept conditions, it was Maccabi who played the better football and dominated the first 25 minutes with some lovely one and two-touch football without an end product. But for all there lovely play it was Astley who scored first.

FC Team off to a flyer

FC Team got off to the perfect start in the quest for the Middlesex County League Division One title with a 3-0 victory over West Essex at John Lyon School.

Team went into the game missing a host of regulars, with James Korn, Jack Mosse, Laurence Judah, Kieran Allen Curry and new star Eddie Obinna all missing through injuries and holidays. However manager Mitch Young had new signings Dan Cohen, Josh Morris, Andy Croll and the returning Mitch Lassman to step in.

MJSL midweek round-up

Manchester Maccabi 3rd maintained their 100 per cent start to the MJSL season with a 2-0 victory over arch rivals South Manchester Sports Club 2nd.

Strikes from Max Rose and Josh Hayes took Howard Gruber’s boys clear at the top of the MJSL Joan Collins Premier Division.

Republic of Mancunia overcame Sporting JLGB 3-0 with goals from Jamie Lyons, Oli Basger and Simon Kaye.

Westdene 1st were awarded three points after Crumpsall forfeited due to a lack of players.

London Lions complete win treble

Goals from Ben Ellis, James Gershfield and supersub Adam Stolerman steered London Lions towards their third straight win as they overcame St. Albans City Reserves in a five-goal thriller at Broxbourne Borough.

This was not one of Lions’ most fluent performances, but with a record crowd in attendance and under the lights on the lush grasses at their new home, they showed that they are learning how to win games when not at their best.

Avram Grant out for West Ham Stoke game

Avram Grant is unlikely to be on the touchline on Yom Kippur when West Ham play at Stoke.

The manager's team is in trouble. After only three games at the start of the season, West Ham have no points.

Mr Grant, who was in Israel last week, was tight-lipped about his Yom Kippur plans, but it is thought he will not travel to Stoke.

The West Ham boss, although not religious, has always observed Yom Kippur in the past.
