Levy replaces Malmilian as Betar coach

Uri Malmilian left Betar Jerusalem on Monday morning as his disappointing tenure as coach of the team he served with distinction as a player came to an end.

Roni Levy was quickly installed as his replacement.

Malmilian had already offered his resignation once this season, but his latest meeting over the weekend with club chairman Itzik Kornfein resulted in the two agreeing to part company by mutual consent.

Magic Morris inspires FC Team

High-flying FC Team came from 3-1 down to win a seven-goal thriller against Greens United in the Middlesex County League Division One.

Playing their first match for six weeks, FC Team looked rusty early on and they found themselves with an uphill task after 45 minutes.

Mitch Young’s men showed great character with debutant James Brookner playing a key role.

Richard Salmon and Josh Morris among the scorers as they moved to within three points of top spot with three games in hand.

Young said: “We showed great spirit and belief to come back and win the game.

Hasid’s the hero for Republic

Republic of Mancunia put on an outstanding display to come from 2-0 down against MJSL strugglers Oakhill. The win keeps the pressure on league leaders Manchester Maccabi 3rd.

Republic were quick out of the traps despite not having played in the league for two months, and piled pressure on the Oakhill defence, creating a series of chances and only being denied by the heroics of goalkeeper Tim Leigh.

West Ham ‘committed’ to keeping Avram Grant

West Ham United today confirmed that Avram Grant will continue in his role as first-team manager.

It appeared that a successor would be appointed following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Arsenal, after which the Israeli manager threw his scarf into the crowd.

There was speculation that Martin O’Neill, the former Aston Villa boss, would be appointed but it has been reported that he was unwilling to put himself forward while Grant remained in charge.

London Lions reserves in seventh heaven

A strong Lions side eventually ran out emphatic winners away at Tring on Saturday, but the gale force wind and heavy, sloping pitch meant they had to work hard to see off spirited opponents.

Two early runs from Ben Ellis set the tone for Lions' attacking intentions, but with the slope in their favour and the cross wind making things tough full stop, Tring were able to get out and at Lions, with the swirling balls tough for Frank Hyman and Adam Lauffer at centre back, the latter though again excelling in unfamiliar territory.

Five-star Manchester stuns Forresters

Manchester Maccabi 1st stunned high flying Forresters Dukinfield with an emphatic 5-1 victory in the League Cup on Sunday.

Jacob Richler-Kleinman, who struck a brace in the win over Harehill last weekend, repeated that feat with another two goals early on for the visitors.

Adam Lavin then struck before Dean Greenfield reduced the arrears for Forresters. Lavin restored the three-goal cushion before Michael Green scored the goal of the game late on.

London Lions rediscover winning formula

London Lions returned to winning ways with a morale-boosting 4-0 victory over St Albans City.

In their last three outings, the Lions have played well but had nothing to show for it. Here, they produced another excellent performance and, this time, took their chances to beat a top quality side.

Goals from Guy Morris, James Gershfield, Daran Bern and Daniel Stanton gave Lions the points over a St. Albans side that were unbeaten in their last 10 games.

Levi stars as the Hawks go through on penalties

Hendon Hawks Rangers progressed to the second round of the cup after beating HMH on penalties.

The Hawks approached the first round of the cup with a counter-attack mentality, playing three at the back and two up front.

HMH Eilat dominated the first half of the game, piling on pressure for the strong Hawks defence to deal with.

AC Whetstone win Under 14 title

AC Whetstone secured the Maccabi Junior League Under 14 title with their 11th consecutive win of the season.

They beat title rivals Hendon White 5 -2 at The Hive in Edgware. The victory takes Whetsone to 22 points from 11 games and means they cannot be caught at the top.

Whetstone opened with a 20 yard thunderbolt from David Clements.

Hendon equalised minutes later with a scrambled finish from a corner but Phillipe Auret restored AC Whetstone's lead when he coolly rounded the keeper.

MPs tackle football hatred

Football and the internet are areas for new government efforts to fight antisemitism, Northern MPs have told Manchester Jewish Representative Council delegates.

Ivan Lewis (Bury South) and Eric Ollerenshaw (Lancaster and Fleetwood) addressed Sunday's council meeting, as did Danny Stone, director of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism.
