Stuart Shapiro, manager of South Manchester Sports Club, was left a relieved man after his Under 16 side squeezed past Leeds Maccabi in the last four of the John RubensTrophy.

Despite being a year older than their opponents, South Manchester were made to sweat as Leeds dominated a hard-fought encounter.

Wingate on a roll

Wingate and Finchley have won the Under 18 County Cup.

Keeper Charlie Gould, David Smouha, Liron Mannie and Seb Garber were in the team who beat Forest United Youth 4-3 at North Greenford United Stadium.

Garber opened the scoring following a great ball in by Smouha. The same player also squeezed home number three before United pulled it back to 3-2 at the interval.

The Division Four promotion hopefuls claim to have issued a request to have the weekend off six weeks ago as they had 10 players unavailable. But they were given a match against North West Neasden C - and they lost 5-0.

Avram Grant denies FA conduct charge

West Ham manager Avram Grant has denied an FA charge of improper conduct over his comments following the FA Cup defeat at Stoke City last month.

He must now attend a personal hearing to be scheduled no later than 7 April.

If found guilty, the Israeli could face a touchline ban.

Anderson to sign for Blackburn

Anderson, 20, started his career at Leyton Orient. He signed for Aberdeen in January after playing in a pre-season friendly for Rovers’ first team last year.
