Kiryat Shmona to play FC Bate in playoff

FC Bate Borisov of Belarus lie between Hapoel Kiryat Shmona and a place in the prestigious group stages of the Champions League following today's draw.

Israel champions Hapoel, who are in the competition for the first time, beat Neftci 6-2 on aggregate earlier this week following a 2-2 draw in the away leg.

The first leg against Bate takes place on August 21/22 with the return a week later.

Ben Haim leaves Portsmouth

Israel defender Tal Ben Haim has left cash-strapped Portsmouth, the club have confirmed.

He finally reached a compromise deal over his wages following lengthy negotiations with the south-coast club.

In a statement, Pompey administrator Trevor Birch said: "I am pleased to announce that we have reached a compromise agreement with Tal Ben Haim, who will now leave the club."
