Maccabi Tel Aviv face Basel in Champions League playoff

Swiss champions Basle stand between Maccabi Tel Aviv and a place in the group stages of the Champions League.

Maccabi will travel to Switzerland for the away leg on August 18/19, with the return in Israel a week later.

They were indebted to Israel striker Eran Zahavi earlier in the week following his double that helped them overturn a first leg deficit against Viktoria Plzen.

Hapoel Kiryat Shmona tumble out of Europa League

Hapoel Kiryat Shmona tumbled out of the Europa League on Thursday night - meaning there will be no Israeli team in he next stage.

The Israeli Cup winners failed to overturn a 2-1 first leg deficit as they were well beaten by Liberec on their home patch.

Hapoel were up against it from the 37th minute, once David Pavelka had give Lierec a crucial away goal.

GB 2 GERMANY 2 (AET – GERMANY WON 4-2 ON PENALTIES)

Simon Zamet admits a penalty shoot-out defeat against hosts Germany left him and his squad feeling devastated.

GB were the better team for long periods but after taking the lead twice, they were unable to keep Germany out before bowing out in the cruellest of fashions.

European Maccabi Games - Tuesday update from Berlin

European Maccabi Games - Sunday update from Berlin

Team Maccabi GB return to action on Sunday, with several athletes and teams going for gold at the European Maccabi Games in Berlin. Highlights saw Sam Cohen win silver in the Ladies Singles Tennis final, the U16 and 18 Futsal teams in action, while the Open Football squad were beaten in the semi-finals against Germany.
